MY23 or MY24…which one?

First time posting, but been lurking for a couple weeks while I mulled over getting a G42 or not and I’m 100% in and pumped for it.

Have a dilemma and wondering if resale value would be dramatically different between a MY23 & MY24 of nearly identical spec in say 4-6 years and/or if MY24 has additional benefits over MY23.
I’ve got an order with one dealer that is scheduled for production (112 status) end of August on a MY24, but also tracked down a MY23 inbound to different dealer that is near identical spec due in about 2 weeks. Only difference is the MY23 has wireless charger & activate cruise control, which I could care less about and did not spec on the MY24 order. Pricing will work out to be about $100 different so not a concern.
Get MY23 now or wait ~3 months for MY24, that is the question…

I had the same choice and went with the MY24 that will finish production this upcoming week (wk 32).
If you keep the car 4-6 years, probably not a big deal. I still went with MY24 bc the difference in delivery timing is just a few weeks. Then I rather go with the “newer” car.

Yup, your situation I’m taking MY24 for sure.
I really want the MY24 as it’s newer. Weather in Colorado gonna start getting iffy 3 months from now (projected delivery) or unpredictable at best when the MY24 would be delivered, but the MY23 gives me couple good months worth of weather driving it. Seems like a coin flip.

Another variable to consider is the likelihood of your MY24 actually shipping on schedule. There are quite a few posts on this forum about long delays.

This would be a legit concern for me. I'm in UK so different logistic chain but my June delivery was pushed to July and now late september.

You could check the dealer with the incoming one to see how long from build to delivery as an indication of what they're seeing local to you and factor tht in your decision..?

Wireless and adaptive cruise might also make more difference to your resale than a MY designation 6 years down the line.

Sigh… not going to be thrilled if I go MY24 and have all these delays I read about and take delivery in the snow

Dealer on the MY23 has been telling me it’s in transit and they expected it a couple weeks ago. It’s allegedly on a truck now and due in a week or so, but who knows.

Great idea JoeyJoeJo - Gonna ask dealer where I have order how long a separate car (wrong spec) that is in transit and was offered to me took from build to where it’s at today.

Just letting you know the 2024 2 series grancoupe come with Idrive 7 which I would prefer, do you know if the 24 M240 has I drive 7 or 8, Im waiting on my 23 M240 with Idrive 8, and if the 24 comes with I drive 7 I'll be pissed lol, it's on the BMW website the gran coupe right now ...

Haha I was wondering what the MY24 changes will be.

Not happy learning the hard way about the cost cutting they made for the MY23. But I guess they were aiming to offset some of the cost of the iDrive 8 dash. Just an assumption.

BMW stopped offering iD7 in the G42, they’re not going to chance back to an older version for future builds. You can dream, but it won’t happen.

I sat in a grandcoupe and it’s very much of a Nissan Altima feel. Okay if you like that kind of thing.

Lol iDrive 8 was a cost cutting mechanism. They were just able to charge more because people think a touch screen costs more than lots of buttons that have transistors and mechanical parts

Bad taste to cancel order on MY24 at dealer and go with the MY23 at different dealer? Would be servicing the MY23 at the dealer where the MY24 would get cancelled…

Short answer is No.

Long answer is Heck to the No.

It’s not like they bend over backwards, making trades with multiple dealers or did tons ground works to get you that allocation. It’s still far away to change the specs, off chance you ordered some odd ball combos (very unlikely on G42s), it’s not like they would have difficulty finding new buyer.

By the by? I think BMW is bring back cassette player on MY24.

They won’t care. Service writers gotta hit numbers too, they’re thrilled to get whatever business comes their way.
