What brand tires has been coming with your cars?

I am hoping Michelin!

In the delivery thread, lots of people posted the tires they got.

I didn't count, but I'd guess around 2/3 of people are getting Michelin PS4S, and the other 1/3 are getting the Pirelli P Zeros.

Not that I've ever seen. I think there's only two tires offered in the lottery, the Michelins and the Pirellis.

Edit: Does BMW even have a STAR Conti tire? (I mean, have they partnered with Conti to develop a star oem like they do with other vendors?)

And then there's the whole weird star thing, which sometimes is a different formulation, apparently?

Anyway, all I'm saying is that, for M2s, I've never heard of anyone getting Contis.

I haven't heard of M2s coming with Contis but there are other M cars that come with them on it is a possibility.

I have never seen it. It'd be cool to see if someone has done it.

Dont the G80 base 18"/19" have Contis as an option (not an option a P1 can pick but an option BMW can use)?

That’s what I received. You should start a poll. It seems most HEA’s came with PZeros and since I’ve seen mostly PS4S. But certainly not a scientific observation.

I don't think a rigorous compro exists, especially not on star tires. I've heard it argued the michelins last a little longer than the pzeros, but nothing scientific.

Yeah, but people also say German made cars are better made.
So, really wish there was a comparison that we could rely on, in terms of performance, even if it’s harder to track longevity.

I don’t think you can compare longevity across different cars in different geographies with different driving styles…

Nope, sure can't.

Consumer Reports has a test lab that can measure tire wear in a scientific way. They could do it. Unfortunately they never test high end sports tires, AFAIK.

No experience with tire life on BMWs but with my Porsche Boxster Pirelli vs. Michelin tire life was the same. I wanted Michelin tires to give better tire life but honestly it didn't happen. I drove the Boxster to 317K miles. With rear tire life at 20K miles and front tire life at 40K miles I went through a fair number of tires.

Was told Michelin tires were better than Pirelli -- my car came from the factory with Pirelli tires -- but the price premium was too much.

When finally Michelin tires got down in price comparable to Pirelli tires I bought a set of Michelin tires.

Really unless I got out and looked I could not tell you which brand of tires was on the car.

Oh, both Pirelli and Michelin tires were marked for use on Porsche cars. Had the 'Nx' as in "N0", "N1", "N2". 'N' signifying Porsche and the number the generation.

Just so happens my M2 (bought it off the showroom floor) was fitted with Michelin tires. Not quite 4000 miles on the car and with my usage the tires are fine. No surprise there.

This is great, thank you. I’ve been trying to point this out to the “tire lottery” gang, but it doesn’t go through.

If your cars were built in Germany and Mexico at a 50/50 split, we’d have tons of threads talking about “having won the factory or country lottery”.

This has to stop…
