I wonder if the CTR got good, or the M cars got worse.

Right answer PROBABLY is “the Civic Type R has always been a very fast sports car on track, trading comfort for performance. With a low(er) price point, it is also not a refined or luxurious car.”

Since the YouTube phenomenon is relatively new, we won’t find comparisons with the original Type R and the same year M3. But results would likely be the same.
They’re just not competitors. Same with the Boxster. But it’s great for clicks. Some folks here swear they cross-shop wagons and sports cars, but realistically, they’re meant for different audiences.

The Type R has always been a special car. I would love one but don't have room in the garage. The G87 is absolutely amazing too and fits what I need a car to do more than the CTR so that's what I drive. Besides, I already have a hot hatch (7.5 GTI). Still would love an CTR or even the Integra Type S.

Why no, I don't want a FWD 4 cylinder hatchback for $55,000.

I have owned both old gen F87 and FK8. The FK8 is a more precise tool.

People downplay the FL5 because it is a FWD hatchback, but don’t sleep on it, this generation of the type R is good, full stop. For me, it’s the shifter quality that really makes it fun.

Either way, we’re lucky to have two new enthusiast cars in the market.

Oh and nothing wrong with people comparing these two, there are no rules, coming from a guy who previously compared a M2C with a ND Miata.

I'd have an FL5 CTR all day as a stablemate. In Championship White, please.

I traded in my 2023 FL5 Civic Type R for a 2019 M4 CS. The Civic is more fun to daily, the M4 has more power. I put 5500 miles on it and traded it in for over MSRP and some dummy bought it for $5k more than that.

My Civic turned a decent lap at VIR:

I have a pending sale on my F87 and have the new CTR. They are different cars and I loved my F87 a lot, more so than most other cars I have owned. The CTR is awesome and is exactly what I need right now. As someone who was in high school in the late 90s and start of the 2000s, the CTR speaks to my love of the JDM cars of that era. It is a special feeling car when you are in the driver's seat

The G87 got too expensive for the spec I would want and I need a 4-door at the moment. The G87 is a super capable performance car but other than my issue with the price I can't get over the front end looks.

Bottom line is when you drive a civic outside the track you look like high school kid trying to look cool.
M2 is a amazing machine on the track and street plus looks

I’m sorry, but did they just compare a 4 cylinder FWD Honda to an M car?

Not hating on the CTR specifically as it certainly has its own place for certain drivers and isn’t a bad car, but that place is not a comparison to an M car.

Unfortunately the Honda Acura twins are bland to look at this time around

Otherwise I wholeheartedly agree

What we all knew, the manual shifting experience is clearly not stellar on the M2 and it's a heavy machine. In daily driving, certainly the shifting I presume, does matter. On the other hand, he refers to the weight as he says that the M2 can perfectly balance out the potholes in the UK like this.

Of course the M2 is on another level. But I presume that we all can start to wonder whether a Bugatti Chiron is a better daily than a Toyota Prius. The answer will be probably: NO.

The M2 has serious grunt and RWD balance and the near 50/50 balance. Try to beat that with a party trick slip diff FWD car! LOL

Not quite the bottom line. You're definitely projecting something.

I will say the G87 does look like a car that say, if Lego were to make a set, it would be for ages 3+. I didn't make that up.

With a $500 tune, the FL5 will beat the G87 around the ~'Ring~ any other standard length race track on the planet too. That doesn't look childish to me at all and I didn't make that up either.

This remains valid...

And the smart diffs do help a lot for the FWDs, but it's not on par with the real RWD lock diffs.
