G87 Rear Brake Caliper Clips - MISSING?

I own both a 2022 G80 M3 Comp and a 2023 G87 M2. They appear to have the same front and rear brakes (and same wheel/tire). I have asked about this before and did not have an exact answer as to whether the brakes were the same. I was initially curious as the brakes on my M3 were silent from the start and were rather noisy (squeaky) on my G87 since the start - at less than 10 miles on ther day I collected it. I thought that BMW might be using a new pad on the 2023/34 models than the 2022.

Now, I noticed that the rear single piston calipers, although looking the same, are missing the M logo badge on the M2, but this badge is on my M3. It appears to be another part that fits over the inner part of the caliper, probably just cosmetic. The front calipers otherwise look the same on both cars no differences. I thought this might just be a cost measure or model difference between the M2 and M3. However, I saw a Swedish video review of the G87 today where the reviewer zoomed in on the rear caliper and it had the same M logo badge where I have an empty hole. His G87 looked just like my G80 M3. Maybe this is on the European models? It looks as though the M logo badge is mounted using the hole that is visible on my M2. Can others in the U.S. confirm what their brakes look like as well as if the brakes are the same on the G80/G82 and the G87? Am I missing a part - was this a parts shortage issue? I included pics of my G80 (black calipers) and G87 (red calipers). Thanks in advance for any info.

I’ve seen videos of US- spec M2s and they have the M badge on the rear calipers

What is interesting as well - the calipers in the video review are red, but the M logo "cover" is still black, similar to what I have on my M3. So, do others in the US have the M logo part on the rear and if so, is it black no matter which color calipers you have - blue or red? Pics would be appreciated, thanks.

Thanks - it appears I am missing this part. Possibly caused by a manufacturing shortage on a non-essential part. I will probably follow up on this with my service advisor when I bring the car in for the run-in service.

Maybe it’s like the tire lottery if you get those M inserts? I’ll look when I get mine and ask the dealer if they’re missing if they get them for me. Let us know what you find out…following the thread

I will - I cannot find the calipers myself using various BMW online parts catalogues, but I will check with my dealer.

I just looked at my wife’s 2024 G05 X5 M50e, which has the red M Performance brakes. Although a different size/model brake, they too have the missing part. I checked it on both my ‘22 G80 and ‘24 G05 - it has a spring feel/operation when pressed. I suspect this is more than cosmetic and does something with the caliper and pad. This could be why I have the persistent loud squeaking operation when braking that does not occur with my G80 M3. I think the pad could be vibrating or resonating under light braking - which I usually do with my manual G87. This could be resulting in the audible squeal.

See this photo I just took of my ‘24 G05 with the same part that seems to be functional and more than cosmetic.

Surprising to me how a car like this could make it from the factory to the dealer and then to the customer, all the while missing parts like this. I would be lying if I did not say this was a bit concerning to me.

Definitely sucks. I know its small but it would irk my o.c.d. Can't believe that snuck thru quality control. I have red calipers just checked mine the logo is intact.

What’s interesting is my g87 has the M badge on the rear calipers but my friends 2023 G80 M3 Comp does not have the M badge on the rear calipers.

I figured that it was not an isolated incident, so very unfortunate. I will definitely follow up on this once I take my car in.

So either my car was delivered without them or they fell off. I found online others were having the same issue and I ordered new ones myself. As other members have stated in other posts, they clip on very poorly/loosely. Suffice to say I bent the tabs inward so there was a lot better positive engagement and 'click' when fully seated...but a few hundred miles later, I lost one of them again. I'm not going to bother haha.

You can remove and add these pieces with the wheel still on (at least the OEM one). This is a poor design at best, unless my caliper bracket molding is somehow thinner/crappier than others.

As far as pad compound I don't know if they're different but they are the same pad shape/sizes between the G8X models.

Well, I guess that means it probably has nothing to do with my squeaking brakes. I have never lost one of these on over 15 M cars though. I am probably not driving hard enough, haha. At the very least, I will need to get the parts as my car never had them from the start. I only have 224 miles on it so far and am still driving it easy under break-in.

I consider myself taking it easy during break-in now too...heck you can still see some cross hatch patterns on my brake rotors haha. They really do not clip on strongly, I had to really bend the tabs and even then I had little confidence in them staying. Makes me believe something else is going on...no way some stay on so well and others fly off.

You might be right. It’s difficult to say what the exact cause is. I haven’t seen the missing part yet, so I’m not sure why yours could be coming off on their own. So your M2 is new as well, with few miles on it yet? Maybe it’s the caliper and not the clip on part? I’m certain mine were both missing from the start, only because I compared the G87 to my G80 when I brought it home - top to bottom. Went over them side by side to see all of the similarities and saw that they were not there. For example - the S58 engine cover is identical on the G80, except that BMW M Power is painted in silver. I thought these were just cost cutting differences.
