I’ve got a BSM G87 inbound and wanted to get some feedback on what % tint is recommended and if there’s a specific tint product out there that’s better than the rest. My dealer has a couple shops they work with that are recommended. Any suggestions here are appreciated not much came up on the search feature. Cheers!

Wouldn’t want to recommend something that may be against your local laws, but I really like how my 15 all around tints with 50 on the windshield came out using 3m Crystalline.

G42, not G87 (yet), but here is 30% ceramic on sides and back on an overcast day, left windshield alone.

3m ceramic...50% on entire front, 30/35% on all other windows. Disclaimer-- I caanot say this does or does not conform with one's local laws so buyer beware. If you are concerned, do your homework on your local restrictions, laws and penalties.

Also looking into this, is it weird to tint back and sides but not front? I imagine there’s a level where if those are too tinted it becomes weird
Edit: my state doesn’t even allow front tint 😂, question still stands though Last edited by yuzu; 08-26-2023 at 03:55 PM.. |

I will follow the local legal max. And tint the sides and… back? Maybe. I am trying to avoid the weird waves you see when wearing polarized sunglasses. Would ceramic tints have that issue too? Any other tints that I should consider?

The 30% is a bit dark for me.... I love it but given that anything on the front side windows is illegal here I may go for 35 on my BSM G87 - especially because I won't have a sunroof to open and make it appear lighter. |

I don't think it is truly legal to tint entire front windshield in most (to all?) States. There are marks to where you can tint from the top (where you could do the max legal %). If you do the entire fromt in a "light" % like 50%, most likely you wouldn’t run into issues cause it would be hard to detect. Oh, to answer your question, no, to terribly weird but driving in the direct setting/rising sun would be quite bright and blinding. It would also make the car heat up faster and most likely stay hotter. |

I went with 20% ceramic all around. Great visibility still.

Mostly dark, but no idiots on golf carts or anything like that. My town is pretty mellow after dark, and there are decent paths for people to walk their dogs at night without being a road hazard. I have had no trouble with the 20% so far. I think the ceramic has better visibility from the inside at 20% than older applications at 20%, it honestly seems more like 30% from inside.

In AZ we have constant high heat / sun / glare so ir/uv rejection is also important. Have used 3m Crystalline on many cars including current with 20% all around but 70% on windshield. This time around on the G87 will be using Xpel XR Plus. High quality like the Crystalline but with slightly higher ir/uv rejection ratings. 20% on all but 70% on windshield.

I have used Lumar Formula One film on my past cars. Only certain dealers are allowed to install it. Most treat your car like it's worth a million. The cars I've had tinted have been new, but I've not dealt with any contamination/debris between the film and the glass as most dealers will tell you a certain percentage is allowed these days. I enjoy dealers who use plotters to cut film instead of free hand as the 'red dot olfa' razors can cut into and have cut into trim. Shops should use filters on their solution spray nozzles, and always drape your door panels, dash with clean and dry drop cloths/towels. I don't care if it's J&J baby shampoo mixed with water, I don't need my door panels, rear dash, speakers, switch gear, and quarters soaked with it (and if they catch some dust in the film they will blast it/flood it, to wash it out. The shop you pick should be spotless as this shows you their level of professionalism and keeps the dust to a minimum by controlling what they can in their environment. To me, the quality of the installer comes first. You find a quality installer, you'll find he uses quality film. Florida allows a glare strip on front window as well as a 70% film on front glass (can go as darker if you have a doctors note), 30% front windows (most use 28% film) and 15% rear (anything past front doors). I've seen this vary widely from state to state. In my opinion, I would never go darker than 15% all around with a 70% in front windshield, and I would not go lighter than a 30% unless you have vision issues. I think 20% is perfect if you can find a dealer that carries it.
