305 tyre on stock rear 10.5J Wheels?

Hi all,

I have a G87 incoming which I intend to tune in future. I pretty much like the stock alloys in bicolour but during my test drive the traction is something that seemed missing even on stock power. From my understanding the max we can put on a 10.5J rims are 295 tyres but I have read on other forum using 305s at the rear on 10.5J rims. Has anyone pulled the trigger and tried it? Other than a higher sidewall (slightly) what could be the pros and cons?

Both 305/30-20 and 305/25-20 tyre sizes are supported on 10.5 to 11.5" wheel widths.

305s will fit on a 10.5"wheel, but to be frank I wouldn't go beyond a 295/30/20 out back. The sidewall will be a bit pinched and won't be supported as well.

I'd agree with that. Manufacturers often say that 305 is the widest you can safely put on a 10.5 wheel. But I don't think it's the best performing option.

295 is IMO the widest I'd consider on 10.5.

305 will fit an 11 wheel nicely, but agree pushing it on 10.5. I actually run 315 on my current car with 11 but it has a bit of poke combined with the wheel offset. Look forward to a more flush setup without poke once the G87 arrives.
