Winter tires!!! Run…. don’t walk to Tirerack
Hey all ,
Wanted to post a heads up for those unfortunate souls like myself getting their cars end of year in snow belts. Tire Rack confirms they will be getting Pirelli Winter Sottozero Series II In our 275/35/19 and 285/30/20 sizes coming in by end of October. Pricing came to ~$2200 but thrilled I can use the cast wheels instead of a new set. Hoping mine arrives on time - 1st to 2nd week of November . |

I never get snow tires but have a truck for inclement weather. Glad there's an option though.

Winter Tires What qualifies as a “snow tire” today is marketed as a “winter tire.” What’s the difference? Lots. Beginning in the 1990s, tire manufacturers began changing the rubber compound on winter tires to stay much more pliable below freezing. For that reason alone, the name “winter tire” is a lot more meaningful. Winter tires will out-perform all-season tires in braking and cornering even on dry pavement when the temperature dips below freezing. In addition, winter tires no longer have big, heavy lugs and huge voids in the tread. Each tread block is full of “micro-sipes” -- tiny cuts in the tread block that allow the tire to move and cut through the snow to the asphalt beneath. |

That's what I have coming in the W speed rating. Direct from Michelin, they estimated delivery in up to 8 weeks. There must be something holding up the production.

I am near a nice Reifen.com location and I will have my tires in a few days 2 Okt - 4 Okt. The wait was not very long on their system.

I'll be giving these a try for dirt cheap. Still have the get the fronts from TireRack, though. My buddy already had a set of these delivered for his M3 and they are indeed brand new. However, they were manufactured in 2018. According to some cursory Google searching and the installer he spoke with at Discount Tire, should still be perfectly fine for 1-2 seasons. And at that price, might as well burn 'em up. |

FYI, my dealer was also able to get the Pirelli Winter Sottozero Series 2 at just under 2200. They will order, store and have them ready to install for winter delivery.

Sounds like you got lucky! Maybe the W speed rating is delayed, or I just got the short end of the stick this season.

My WAG is there is just not that much demand for *real* snow tires here. Most vehicle owners who might be a snow tire customer are happy with all season tires.
All Season? Hah! I've heard these referred to *no* season tires... The are sub-par in summer for performance cars -- my Hellcat came with all season tires for crying out loud -- and sub-par for winter use on just about any car. Oh the all season tires work in snow just fine. Until they don't. |

Ironically, I work with Reifen.com sometimes, and have a direct line to Michelin through them. They told me the W rated Alpin 5s where delayed, but the V rated were easy to get. Guess I shouldn't complain though since I'm getting hooked up.

So, I called tire rack last week, and after they took my order, they called me back within minutes. He said this never happens but Pirelli emailed him right away saying they winters would not come back in stock (for the rear). I'm not sure if anyone had the same experience. I then placed an order with Summit but even they said if that's what Tire Rack was told, don't be too hopeful that they would get them either. So I went to BMW today and they were able to order the Sottozero's and even had a chance to talk to their "tire guy" because he was there. He didn't seem to think the rear size would be an issue to find. Anyways, I ordered them and they actually got delivered today. I'm not sure if it's because I began looking too early and couldn't find them or the tires are just now coming into production or if I just got lucky. But doesn't hurt to reach out to a service advisor. Good luck!

Yeah I pretty much got the same response from them when I called last week, however he told me that winters would be more available towards the end of the month. When you ordered from BMW, did you get just tires or rims and tires? I'm looking for only tires, I will be using the stock rims for winters and ill get new rims for summers (I'm not a fan of the stock rims) |
