EBC Red Brake Dust Review

I put EBC Red pads on the front brakes of my M2 the day I picked it up. Even though the rears were still brand new I wasn’t able to get the calipers over the rotor with the new pads. I understand it takes a special tool.

Attached are photos of front (with EBC Red) and rear (stock pads). This was about 1700 miles of driving (1400 from road trip, 300 normal around town driving).

The fronts do most of the work so it’s not the best comparison, but is the best I could do. Ideal would have been to leave one side stock.

EBC Red have less dust than stock for sure but there is still a lot there. Personally I don’t think I would choose them again since it isn’t really buying much and the wheels are still super dirty after a couple hundred miles.

Are there any legit very low or no dust pads out there for this car?

Damn, I was going to get a set in hopes of less dust .

How do they perform over stock? Specifically initial bite. I really want something thar bites harder initially, with 0 squeal.

It seems the initial bite is a little less than stock but I only had the stock ones on for 1 day.

Double whammy, I guess I'll look elsewhere. I already hate the initial stock bite.

I believe there was some pretty positive reviews on hete about the Carbotech option for dust and noise. Though don't recall if they went into bite.

The G80 forums had carbotech review up, said bite was not as good as stock. Which is surprising because the stock bite is pretty poor IMO.

In most cases, there is a tradeoff between stopping power and low dust. You can't have both. For me, I would rather wash my wheels occasionally than scrape the front of my car off the rear bumper of a car in front of me.

The Brembos (OEM) will definitely have more bite/stopping power than Red Stuffs.

Not entirely true, based on my research. G80/G82 guys have reported that Isweeps offering for their IS2000 pads dust less, bite harder and last longer. They just cost a decent penny and are hard to come by (locally for me).

https://autotecknic.com/products/isw...cl-competition

These are my top choice ATM, but need more feedback + research.

Which is what I thought, but certain individuals and vendors have stared that the Red Stuffs bite harder... ultra confusing.

Red Stuffs are like EBC's lowest tier performance product, which is why I found it odd when people claimed it bites harder than the OEM Brembos.

Never had such a hard time finding better pads vs. OEM until owning the G87 haha.

Last night I ordered a set of the iSweep 1500’s for this M2 and also for my G42 after reading a bunch of reviews that were very positive.

I don’t drive too fast on the street or track either of them so I thought 1500 was the right pad for me. Reduced dust is my #1 priority. I will report back on those in a couple months.

Any reason you didn't opt for the 2000's?

It was a tough decision! Lots of great reviews on the 2000’s. Better braking, no squeal, half the dust as stock.

But my main priority is to have as little dust as possible which points to 1500. Sounds like they are most equivalent to stock but without the squeal and “most” of the dust.

Given that the G87 fronts are the same as the G80/82 M3/4 fronts... it sure is odd that nobody has cone up with a set for the front besides whats available (EBC and iSweep)...

Hopefully we get some choices soon

Saw your order yesterday, thank you for your business.
Looking forward for your review.

True there aren’t too many. This thread had some pretty good info: https://www.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...php?p=29028642

Can confirm the iSweeps produce MUCH less dust than OEM, I got the 1500 F/R. I’ve had them on for a few months now and also absolutely no squeal like the OEM brakes were making. Yes they’re expensive but washing my wheels has been much less of a pita and no more brake squeal made them worth it, couldn’t be happier with the purchase!

I have used red stuff and yellow stuff on other applications (red stuff is their low end). The Brembos on the G87 is a high end product (just short of their track/race pads). Dust aside, the bite on the stock Brembos is excellent. I dobhave trouble believing the red stuff are equal in performance.

Our best-selling low-dust street pads are the Porterfield R4-S. Can't stay how it compares to the Red Stuff, but it's less than OEM. If anyone wants to try and set and compare them to the Red Stuff, send us a PM.
