Is the dealer playing me?

Is it real that BMW corporate has a 48 hours policy for costumers to pickup their ordered once it gets to the dealership?

If true I just cannot believe it. Again, it smells BS ALL OVER!!!

Its not a corporate policy but the dealership could be doing it for any number of reasons (not that its right, either).

When did the car arrive at the dealership and when did you tell them you wanted to pick it up/take delivery?

The car is scheduled to reach the port this Monday, not sure how long it will take to get to the dealership (they are just 150 miles away). So most likely the car will be at the dealer on Wednesday (Oct 4) or Thursday? I have a trip to Miami starting on Thursday Oct 5th (6am) coming back late the following Tuesday (Oct 10th). So, if the car is not there on Wednesday the 4th, the earliest I can pick it up (and aparently complete the paperwork) is the 11th.

I am a serious buyer, they know that. I already gave a sizable deposit a year ago.

Any insight or angle will be appreciated.

Unusual that they are not accommodating your personal trip... after all, there is a deposit on the incoming car.

Enjoy your trip to Miami. The car can easily sit at the port for a week or more before hitting the dealer.

Ship has to unload. Cars get scanned and Maroneys. Logistics with trucks get sorted, after all they have to move a ton of cars besides the M2.

If the car arrives while your gone another option might be to e-sign everything. Most dealerships are setup and capable ever since the pandemic.

I have heard this “picked up within 48 hours” up in New England as well. (Tulley BMW)

It’s clearly total bullshit, but I wonder why?

Dealer flooring is the only thing I can think of? They turn it so fast they never have to have it on the books

I guess it could be an allocations thing too, but I doubt it.

I work professionally with a lot of dealers but the dealer finance side of things is not one I’m too familiar with

I was in the exact same position, but my dealer never created any problems. I picked it up about a week after they got it. They never mentioned anything being a problem. I am inthe Chicago area.

Garage List
I mean if you have a deposit down and a signed agreement they should be able to hold the car for you a more reasonable amount of time if you can’t get there right away. Due to potential arrival of my car, I would have been out of town for a business trip. I explained this and the dealer agreed to keep the car on the showroom floor until I got back over the weekend if that happened. Now with that said, I don’t think it’s reasonable for a dealer to hold your car for several weeks or months, taking up space and they have to look after it.

Come to think of it, the 48 hour thing might be some BS to either get the party that ordered it quickly or get them to “default” on the deal in which the dealer can now tack on some ADM and throw it on the lot.

Those wanting to order a car are (mostly) not willing to tolerate ADM

Those hoping to show up and take a car home that day are more than happy to pay extra it seems

It's not a BMW policy, it's your dealer. They likely want to punch the sale asap so they get acknowledged in line for more allocations. The sooner they sell a car once it departs the factory, the better for them in the algorithm with BMW. There is a clock that starts either when the car arrives to the dealer or leaves the VPC for the dealer and they get credit from BMW the shorter the window from that point and the sale.

E signing may be an option, but I know some states want wet signatures

Likely your dealerships policy . And perhaps the salespeople would rather just say it's a BMW policy.

My dealership has a 3 to 5 day policy that I had to agree to :

When the car arrives, the dealership will notify me. At that point , I have 3 days to respond to the dealership.

At that point , I have a total of 5 days (including the first 3 days) to pick up and finish the paperwork for the car

Dealerships have to complete pre-purchase inspections (PPI) on new cars and you're not their only customer. Don't be an ass.

Sounded like a CA that was worried you would be bailing on them. Glad it was resolved! Enjoy the vacation and car brother, picked mine up last week, and its a BEAST! Cannot wait until the break-in period is behind me.
