If you are talking about the M button on center console next to the "setup" button, it shows different "instrument clusters" on the screen. You will see the different setups between road, sport and track. It can also disable certain "security" settings (lane departure, vibrating steering wheel, etc) however these can also be disabled by setting up/syncing your key with your BMW app. Last edited by M_Power Rob; 10-02-2023 at 12:03 AM.. |

Yeah not the button. This is in the "displays" app and nothing changed with the screen or the button for the matter (It was on road by default).
The button still brings up the three options. I don't see anything about this in the owners manual. |

I believe the displays app is reflecting how you have set the "button" (which mode you are in). |

Yeah the button is in the manual but not this. The setting in the display app I changed manually. It doesn't seem to update based on what I do with the button.

Odd thought here... Look at the items that are deactivated in Sport Mode.. do you have those deactivated in your settings? If so, that could be why its showing Sport Mode. |

I don't have any of those enabled in any mode. Again, I went in to displays and changed the setting from road to sport. It is a setting that looks like it is supposed to be changed by the driver rather than just reflecting what mode you have selected via the M mode button.
Not a huge deal but just curious what this is supposed to do. |

Biggest QOL/ergonomics miss with this car IMO is the way the cluster works and how you can’t map different cluster modes to driving modes. Makes no sense.

AND that you can't set them as defaults, instead of reverting back to Road every time.

Sad to see that BMW is not immune to the half-baked tech that makes up to much of automotive design these days.

Agreed. I'm currently without car but still talking about this big miss aggravates me.

I also changed that mode to sport, hoping it would set a default, and it did literally nothing.
I was kind of furious about having to reset to sport every time I turn on the car. Once I played around a bit with the dash, and used the nav, etc - I've grown to really like the road one and using the map or diff info on the display, it's UX is great really...so i'm LESS mad about the default to Road...but for christ's sake, let me have a GD tachometer in it!! |
