Reversing Lights
Are everyone’s reversing lights super dim?!
I couldn’t see shit backing up just now. Old car (F44) had super bright back up lights.

I’ve seen threads and posts on here, ad nauseam, about things people don’t like about their cars, and NO ONE has mentioned this! I thought there was something wrong with me!

And people still tint them. Ever see lights aren’t for seeing your path in reverse, they are for letting others know you are reversing. |

Yep, backup light/camera performance is trash.
I tried masking off part of the camera so that it could not see the top of the light colored bumper thinking it was messing with the camera AGC. No luck with that. I finally solved the problem by getting one of these and tapping into the backup light circuit. https://www.amazon.com/VLEDS-1800lm-.../dp/B0813XFLSZ View post on imgur.com This of course required some drilling to get wire access. I drilled a 1/2" hole and installed a rubber grommet in the deck lid under the license plate. I then tapped into the backup light circuit near the passenger side trunk fuse box. This light is BRIGHT. So bright in fact that the first test washed out the camera due to glare from the light hitting the back of the backup camera housing. Fixed that problem by 3D printing a little shroud to keep light hitting camera housing directly as shown in the pic. Very happy with the end result but realize it may be too invasive for some. |

Here in Utah any light >3770 lumen cannot have a ground throw >75'
Definitely throwing more than 3700 lumen but not >75' due to the printed shroud. Though, full disclosure, I did not check these regs before the install. Highly unlikely anyone around here would notice or care though I understand some jurisdictions can be a bit more.. fastidious so good point about checking. |

Integrated LED, until another vendor makes an aftermarket, no options.

This needs a recall honestly. If it was just the camera with poor low light response one could at least turn around and look…which should be done anyway. But the dim light makes that pretty useless too.

I couldn't backup into my driveway in the rain and dark with the driveway lights off. I could not see a thing, camera showed nothing, all 3 mirrors showed only blackness, had to stick my head out the window. This is the biggest flaw on this car.
