KG Splitter installed

I installed the KG Splitter along with the Mishimoto skidplate this week.
My thoughts:
  1. The KG Splitter is about as simple as it comes as it is just cut from a sheet of plastic (I am guessing ABS) with a CNC router. I was going for function and not looks and I didn't want to shed any tears if I scrape it (which I did probably right away coming out of my driveway).
  2. The hardware is just SS sheet metal screws intended to screw into the plastic nutserts under the car. I wasn't impressed with this. Luckily the splitter can screw into the four 6mm threaded holes in the mishimoto skidplate. A trip to the hardware store to get some M6x55 panhead screws and I was set. I do like attaching it to the skidplate as it makes it much more rigid.
  3. I wasn't impressed with the outer mount points because it is just the sheet metal screws and a small plastic nut utilizing a hole in the under tray and fender used for a push retainer clips. I used another M6 screw with fender washers and a lock nut here.
  4. The kit comes a few spacers of various heights. These are just a plastic bar that was cut on a chop saw. They are cut at an angle to try to match the angle of the bottom of the car. The angle didn't match my car at all. I will probably remake these down the road.
  5. With all the fasteners still loose, two of the holes still didn't lineup. I had to drill holes about 1/4" away from the original before I tightened everything up.

Anyway the summary is that it is a low cost functional splitter suited for those who might track their car and don't want to worry about taking care of an expensive carbon fiber splitter. If you use it with a skidplate expect to do some extra work.
Here is a pic, sorry about the dirty car.

Garage List
Looks very similar to the Lightweight lip I briefly (came off at speed due to your aforementioned sheet metal screws) had on my F80 M3.

Looks good, and cheap enough I'm assuming to treat it as a consumable. I'm all for some more cost effective options for lips, especially when lowered.

Thanks for being the guinea pig!

Is the splitter pre drilled and use the OEM 10mm bolts under the bar as well as the supplied TEC screws? Did you use any double sided tape?
Sounding like this thing is going to disappear under the car at higher speeds if its just a few self tapping screws holding it on.

I used 4 M6 screws in the front (10mm head) & 2 on the ends for extra security. The other 4 are sheet metal screws.
As designed it is intended to use only the sheet metal screws.

KG Splitter

Just curious can you see the ground behind the splitter where the arrow is? If yes, is it because you positioned it forward more than normal due to your skid plate? I am contemplating this lip as my first option. Just want to be sure what I am getting. Also, did you happen to take any photos of how it is mounted from the bottom side?

Good observation but no, I didn't move it forward. It is mounted in the location as they intended in their design. There are some spacers in the center section that create an opening in the center which is why you can see behind the splitter from that angle. I don't have a picture handy but maybe you can see what you need from this video

How is the fitment and stability? Do you feel it is stable at high speed and would not lose screws?

I have had the car up to 160 mph and the hardware is still all there. Keep in mind that where possible I used nuts and machine screws instead of the provided sheet metal screws into plastic nutserts.
Personally, I would trust the hardware that they provide, but your opinion may be different.

Perhaps it’s age or decades of extensive highway driving/motorcycle riding but I don’t trust what surrounds me at 160mph anymore. YMMV

Any other photos of it installed? How was installation are you drilling new holes in the bumper itself or was it designed to utilize the current OEM holes? I ordered mine but just curious what I will be getting into.

I didn't drill any holes into the car. I used machine screws and nuts where possible to avoid the sheet metal screws that they provide. Having a Mishimoto skid plate helps to make it more secure.
