Saw the new M2 in person today for the first time

Went to a local BMW group meetup. Got to see the new M2 in person. I have to say it is much better in person. It's not a great looking car but it's definitely a good looking car especially the front 3/4 view. The rear is still a bit wonky but the front is quite a lot better than pictures make it appear.

Also in the flesh the fender flares look great and really set it off. The interior build quality is also worlds better than the prior gen car.

Given the amount of dislike I threw at this car, I was surprised at how much different it looked in the real world.

Anyway, thought I'd share. If you haven't seen this car in person I'd recommend checking it out before rushing to judgement.

It all depends on the color of the M2. Black and red hide most of the weird shapes and makes the car look acceptable. Still is fugly though. I do like the seats in the G87.

I was at a BMW dealership and happened to see a blue M2 up on the lift getting PDI, the service writer and I looked at each other and both grimaced. I thought it looked just as bad in real life as it did in print. Hard pass.

I saw one in real life recently.

I agree, it looks fair overall. Not a future classic by any means, but I like it.
But.... it depends on the color. The ugly pastel blue or grey are hideous.

It's crazy to me how BMW is loosing so much points in looks and design as times goes on. It's so sad.

Saw this one in Munich a few weeks ago. It does look very nice in person (rear is a bit funky though).

Looks better in person but still not an attractive car. Being able to buy it at MSRP in stock and special ordered with available allocation for a car that was just released a few months ago, that has exceptional bang for the buck AND available with manual, is an oddity in this market. I really think BMW lost out on a lot of sales for the M2 because of the way it looks.

I wouldn’t buy a C8 either if it looked like a marshmallow with Lego’s thrown at it.

The buck tooth M3/4 has gotten to the point where it's normal looking so these odd shapes will blend over some time.

There is not a view of that car that I find even acceptable, let alone "good."

But to each their own.

I was going to buy one. The dealer called with an allocation, I took a hard look at the ugly design and the bad color choices and passed. I'm out.

100% agree. Saw one today and there just isn't a single angle that looks right.

I actually think it looks worse in person than it does in photos. It comes off looking like a BMW with a horribly proportioned body kit. I will not discount anyone that likes the way it looks, but it simply does not look good at all to my eyes.

I don't like how the diffuser is notched into the rear bumper. I think the rear looks more cohesive when the diffuser is painted the same as the body color.

Diffuser in body colour makes the rear end look huge and the exhaust pipes more "pronounced". What is fugly there to me are the lights.

It's a good idea, and better than stock for sure, but it's not cohesive, as in the rear bumper looks finished right there, but the bottom part doesn't if it's body color.

I thought for sure someone would have come up with a hood and front bumper to fix the G80 by now, but they haven't. I feel the same about this. I think it's possible to redesign the front and rear to make the car a lot more easy on the eyes, but it's probably not going to happen.

BMW and it's design team are all on drugs with these repugnant offense to the eyes!!!

Looks like they let a 5yr old create some crazy design and they rolled with it. Only thing that will fix it is sales (lack of)... But there's always those who will succumb to the "gotta have it" because "BMW"...

I was waiting to see the new roll out design and possibly trading up my M240 (2020)... And I almost puked when I seen the reveal. What a shame really! It's all my opinion of course, but I'll gladly be holding onto my last of the best (looking) 2 series (for now), lol!!!

I saw and ran with a red M2 at a track meet. Its a great car from a dynamics perspective but I'm so sad to say the ugliness trumped all of that and I couldn't even look at it for long it is that bad. The new M240i looks good though I would buy that instead.
