A bit concerning

On a Mat Armstrong video, a BMW tech said all their models report when they have had a dyno run. Basically the car doing over X miles an hour but not actually moving logs a report. They also show on the workshop computers when they have been coded/mapped/piggybacks too, contrary to the "BMW cant see this" statement you get. I'd rather keep my warranty

It is pretty common knowledge that tuning or even piggy back boxes is detectable and (rightly) voids engine warranty on effected parts.

I don't think I have ever seen any manufacturer or supplier say otherwise.

It shouldn't void warranty on unrelated things like suspension unless you have a really shitty dealer.

Its nit the dealership that voids the warranty, its BMW.

Even if you know the right people where they can do work and make sure the car's info is not sent to BMW where they would see it, I would remind people of BIG BROTHER (always watching). Only thing I can say, caveat emptor...

If you are doing real modding that has the potential to void your drivetrain warranty (or even serious suspension work) and are concerned, get a Carbahn warranty to cover it.

I am not familiar with it but I dont think there is anything that fully clears the history. When they hook up your computer and it's transmitted to Germany, if they want to look for history they will find it, no matter how well youbscrubbed it.

No problem in tuning, it is just that you won't have a warranty on the components it affects. The only honest way, really.

Yes i get that .but we all know how dealers will do anything to wriggle out of a warranty claim.....even if if you had the car tuned and a head unit went they would try and blame the tune ,thats the issue.

That hasn't been my experience for unrelated items, but I can see their point if there was any driveline issue due to an engine tune, as all components would be under higher than design stress from the engine through to the tyres. If the CANbus or other bus systems have problems due to a tune where the ECU was removed or any device was placed on the bus, that could be a valid warranty denial, too.

The piggy back / tuning etc is well known. Was not aware of thr dyno run tracking. Though that by itself should not mean anything as a dyno run alone is nothing but a bench mark.

It will clear the fault but as soon as you scan with Ista again it will detect the tune in the dme and reset the fault. Unfortunately bmw got smart and this is something totally out of the dealers hands. All data hits the servers and gets sent to BMW automatically. No way around it. As far as warranty being voided that’s not necessarily true. It’s a giant pain at the dealer level. For example I’ve seen a tuned car have a warranty front timing cover leak (s63) covered under factory warranty. All sorts of pictures and documentation have to be done through a “parts clearing TSARA” case with BMW NA. On that particular vehicle they sent out a bmw field service engineer and approved the warranty repair. If you blow an engine, transmission, transfer case, driveshaft, differential or something of that nature BMW NA will likely give you a big middle finger.

Countless people have successfully tuned their vehicles for years, some for over a decade, without any problems.

The ongoing debate about whether BMW is aware in my opinion, is irrelevant. BMW doesn't care unless something breaks (all my cars are leased and all are fully built, never had any issues with warranty or returning the cars once the lease is up)

This is why it's important to choose proven mods and stick to the recommended maps. hundreds of thousands of satisfied users over the last 14 years, suggests that proven modifications are unlikely to cause issues.

However, it's important to remember that there are no absolute guarantees in life. If you're uncomfortable with even this slight level of risk, tuning may not be the right choice for you, and it would be best to keep your car stock .

And they know your car has been tuned when you go to turn in your lease?
