G80 TPMS not Compatible with the G87?

Just went to get my winter wheels and tires installed at a local tire shop. I bought the wheels with the TPMS sensors already installed from a G80 forum member thinking G87 would use the same hardware. Tire shop tried to install the winter wheels and they said the TPMS is not compatible with the G87. Just giving everyone a heads up if you are shopping for a set of winter wheels and assuming the G80 setup would work exactly the same for the G87...

They use the same OEM part number, maybe it was aftermarket and not programmed correctly?

Oh it is aftermarket (winter wheel package from Tire Rack) so I guess they needed reprogram it then? I had assumed it would be plug and play since the G80 and G87 have the same hardware.

The aftermarket sensors don’t seem to be as intelligent in pairing with the BMW TPMS system as the OEM ones. Most of the aftermarket sensors are multi-brand too, so are not just specific to BMW. The Autel sensors I have on our Macan required the Autel programming tool at my tyre supplier to have the VIN input for the configuration to be properly completed.

OP here, Discount Tire figured out what was happening. Once the Tire Rack TPMS was programmed for a vehicle, there was no reprograming and G80 and G87 are not the same vehicle so TPMS would not connect. I just ordered a new set of TPMS that can be programmed fresh.

I run tire rack sensors without a problem.
