2023 G87 M2 Bluetooth iPhone failure

This thread is just to help my fellow G87 M2 owners. I recently had my iPhone 15 pro max fail to connect to the BMW Bluetooth. The Bluetooth toggle in the BMW would not allow you to switch it on. Searching the internet found nothing to help.
The solution is to perform a soft reset to the radio system only; press and hold the physical on/off radio button until the screen goes black, release and then press the button to turn on. Bluetooth should work now.

Yep, it's the most common issue I see with new BMW's.

If the soft reboot doesn't work, try restarting your phone. If neither work, delete and start from scratch.

Not only BMWs in my experience, probably happens about twice as often in our 2021 Macan and used to be even more frequent in our 2016 Golf R. Also has happened in Peugeot and Mercedes rental cars that I have driven over the past few years.

Yeah Apple Carplay seems to be the common denominator. Overrated system (IMO) but everyone's obsessed with it.

I think the issue is the constant IOS updates + foreign system +vehicle updates and things don't always sync up together.

It normally works well when you drive, get to your destination, get out of the car, lock it, and spend some time away from it, come back, unlock it, and drive again. No problem.

For example, there was a day I parked somewhere, but didn't leave the car. I turned the car off, opened the door, picked up what I needed to pick up, had a quick chat, and got back in, turned the engine on to go again. Would absolutely NOT connect to bluetooth (or CarPlay as alluded, neither work), no matter what I did.

Holding the button down to reset iDrive is the only solution if you want to connect right away. Otherwise, it'll work next time you get to your locked car.
I seem to have the most problems with both the Macan and M2 when my wife uses the vehicle with her iPhone and we later have both iPhones in the car at the same time. Sometimes requires a manual selection of the device, sometimes a soft reboot to get the correct iPhone working with CarPlay again. This is only about once a month, though, not every time.

If the vehicle’s Bluetooth can be toggled off and on then it will more than likely be your phone. In my case the vehicle’s Bluetooth stayed off no matter how much u tried to turn it on it was unresponsive. In that case which was mine I did the soft reset n it worked after.

The fix is out today in 17.1.1.

Apple says the iOS 17.1.1 update addresses an iPhone 15 charging problem, seen by some BMW and Toyota Supras drivers. Apple has acknowledged that the wireless charging systems in these cars can deactivate the iPhone 15 range's Near Field Communications (NFC) capabilities.

Does that mean we 6MT drivers can use the digital key?

For those with iPhones, you can setup automations via the shortcut app on your device.

For instance, I have mine to automatically begin playing YouTube Music upon connecting to CarPlay and also to give me the option to accept directions to drive home.

I haven’t had any CarPlay issues in my four months of ownership.

Ya the older VAG stuff can be tedious, I took my 991.2 on a 2 week road trip in Oct had to reset every 2 days or so. You’d think being a wired system it was more stable but no.

I’ve only had to reset once in 2 years on my G05 X5 but that was mostly android auto use.

M2 not had an issue yet.

One thing I’ve noticed between apple car play and android auto is you get google maps on the HUD with android auto.
