Monster: GT-R 3.3 0-60 and 11.6 1/4 mile @ 120.9

Our test was conducted on a fairly low-grip surface that produced lots of rear wheelspin before the GT-R's sophisticated all-wheel-drive system engaged the front wheels and it thundered down the track. Its 3.3-second 0-60-mph run and 11.6 at 120.9 mph performance make the GT-R the quickest car we've ever tested.

Damn. This certainly puts the M3 in the shade for similar money. If you could actually get one for MSRP, it would be mighty tempting.

Damn you 1ster. I posted a thread about this 5min ago..haha

I'm gonna try to convince my Father who is eyeing the e92 M3 to get this car. Its gonna be hard to ask him to spend 65k on a nissan. Regardless of the abilities it still will be VERY HARD. But geeze this shit is FAST. We cant forget that it was a Japanese Spec car. Also, a few have been dynoed and the car is putting out more than 473hp. Its closer to 550hp.

Haha, I dont know. I have two words for this car. GAME CHANGER. I mean how is one to compete with it. Its sick. There has been a serious mystique surrounding this car for over a decade and they came through. The interior is still ehh. That M3 CSL better bring it. They need to stuff that Twin-turbo from the X6 in it asap..and equip it with that new AWD from the X6 and we will have ourself a fight!

The more I think about the GT-R, the more convinced I become that we may be approaching the upper limits of just how big, fast, heavy, and dominant a sports car can be in the real world. I mean, this is stoopid speed for upper middle class money.

My hope is that we will see not a bigger/faster GT-R competitor, but a Lotus Elise for the masses. Make it under 2,000 lbs, give it 240hp and a nice torque curve, make it RWD, and charge $30k for it. Oh, and make it every day reliable and allow it to get 30 mpg in the city.

Lighter and simpler cars are where the market needs to go. Awesome as the GT-R is, it's like the BFG of automobiles. Give me a Miata coupe with one of those fancy modern diesel engines from Europe. Or how about a new CRX that weighs 1,800 lbs?

Supercars are awesome, and if I could buy a GT-R, I probably would. But the market needs to get more creative in the long run.

No worries...the CRX is coming. It will be called the CR-Z and definitely weigh less than the 2600lb Honda Civic.

It's still hideous both inside and out. For me, an M3 still is the more tempting buy. Driving is not all about raw figures and, to me, the GT-R has nothing in it that extracts the emotion that an M3 or 911 do.

I agree with your statement. But those damn figures are still scary as hell. But then again, if i'm not mistaken the japanese do use 100octane fuel.

but wasnt it def. tested with 93 octane? at least thats what they have been sayign on the 350 boards

for under 70k
this is a steal if you could get your hands on one... i can def. see my self picking one up in 5 yrs when they are used and cheaper ( and modded!)

1. They use a different ratings system in Japan. It's RON and not octane so 98 RON is around 94 octane.

2.How can you say that about a car you're never driven?
If you have a bias towards German cars that's fine but to dismiss other cars without any first hand experience is borderline fanboy territory.

No, you're right. It would be great to be given an opportunity to try it out and see how it compares but that doesn't make my current thoughts invalid. I don't like the look of it, I don't like the sound of it, and the mysticism surrounding the GT-R has never struck a cord with me.

This thing is sick, I never doubted the GT-rs performance knowing how amazing the r34 was. Even at 10k over MSRP, it still a steal compared to the 911 turbo. The Mystic Isnt that big for the car cuz most people have never heard of it but for a car that has a following as big as the skyline neer being released in the US that should say something. The new M3 will likely and hopefully be better for normal driving, but from a pure performance stand point its not looking good.

I was talking M3 CSL. Its been confirmed its coming. So whatever the M boss had it mind, he needs to start from scratch! 10k over msrp? haha. This car will cost just as much as the Porsche 911 Turbo for at least a couple of years.

There is zero doubt that the GT-R will PWN the M3 on a racetrack. The M3 is wonderful, but the GT-R is a much faster and more focused car.

I agree. Also, even if the CSL comes closer in performance, the GT-R can easily and cheaply be modded for MUCH more power, since it's a turbo (turn up the boost)...
