Full M4 CSL suspension on our M2 - Install video + driving review

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com

Ever since the G87 M2 was unveiled we've had a plan in our heads to build an M2 CSL, and after driving an M4 CSL we knew our plan wouldn't be complete unless the M2 drove just like a CSL should.

To achieve our goal we're fitting almost every M4 CSL specific suspension part along with the Steering, Transmission and Diff/Traction software and a custom wheel alignment.

But have we managed to achieve our goal? Imran gets behind the wheel to see if all our hard work has paid off, and we've built an M2 CSL before BMW.

Can you share how much camber you were able to get with the csl hubs and also any pictures showing the center section of the front sway bar compared to stock?

They visually looked very similar, would be interesting to get the two on a machine that can measure ARBs to see how different they are, but can definitely feel a difference.

From memory it’s around -2.5° on the front, the lower ride height will also be adding a little.

Love to see this. I may have to get to grab those sway bars.

Did you guys get to get the parts for the rear seat delete as well? That's what I'm really after.

I have the CSL wheels and engine brace already. You guys took it to the next level. Great job!

The genuine seat delete one part isn’t listed and the others are incredibly expensive, and also would most likely need modification to fit G87 correctly.

Just delete your seat yourself. Then you can wax the interior as well. I left that thin sound deadening or whatever that is.

Wow great job! That looks awesome!

I'm trying to keep it all OEM on the interior though, otherwise I'll just leave it the way it is.

It’s a lot of small changes but it really has made the car feel much more direct and engaging, more capable and ultimately more fun.

If the M2 is your fun car I can wholeheartedly recommend it!

As a package how much would everything cost ?

I’m surprised you left them casted stock alloy wheels as they weigh so much more than forged alloys .

I made a 8kg saving all round when I changed mine to forged the other day.

Interesting that one can just grab the suspension parts from a diff model car altogether and it fits.

Everything from a Z4 & 2-series coupe all the way to an 7-series & XM have the same fundamental suspension and driveline pickup points, as they are all on the CLAR platform with the main difference being the wheelbase length. This is the main reason the G87 is heavier and wider than some people would like to see, as the core platform has to be compatible with a 2700kg SUV.

This is so awesome. I'm curious what these OEM CSL parts would cost in the US and if they're even available to purchase from the dealer.

Well, yes and no. There are changes such as the 5 series and most of the SUVs being double wishbone up front, which is a substantial difference.

These engineering projects are a welcome diversion from “cannot find a EV charger that works” observations.

Thanks for sharing!

It actually isn't much of a difference, as the platform stays the same, but it has a different strut/damper tower top (supports the upper wishbone for the 5-series variant), which in all CLAR vehicles is a casting riveted and bonded to the unibody. It is likely the double wishbone suspension could be transferred to other models if the strut tower top was changed. The Z4 and Supra also have some modifications, but the CLAR unibody with the variable length floorpan is consistent across models.

Should do, with the right wheel/tyre sizes & offsets to clear bodywork.

Anyone come up with a parts list for this? Browsing for CSL components has been surprisingly frustrating.
