Spacers & how do they differ from brand to brand?

Hey all, getting my M2 next week and thinking about getting a couple of things done while my car is in the shop getting PPF'ed.

Spacers were a good place to start. How much do spacers differ from brand to brand? Why are people paying more for certain spacers over another?

Trying to save money as strategically as possible while I map out my build for this car

Thanks guys!

Assuming both brands offer high quality products, you will want to make sure they are hubcentric. Some do not offer that, so keep that in mind. Secondly, take a good look into material, some are made of more expensive material.

If it isn’t made of 6061-T6 aluminium (or few less common alloys that are equivalent), then I’d run away. Any other material is not really suitable for wheel spacers. That being said, even the cheapest spacers are unlikely to use anything else less suitable than 6061-T6, as the material cost in a 15mm spacer machined from a 150mm diameter, 25mm blank is about $3 per spacer.

Also check spec weights. Future Classic for example you are adding less rotational weight ( the more you add, the more parasitic power loss) than others while still getting 6061-T6.

There is very small difference in rotational inertia due to the spacer weight. You are typically looking at 0.4kg vs 0.5kg weight difference with a spacer of about 140mm diameter, so the rotational inertia difference will be about 0.000245kgm^2. The OEM wheel, tyre, brake and hub inertia is around 2kgm^2, so the inertia from lightest to heaviest spacer is about 0.012% change.

I would look for the spacers with consistent and high quality machining and the proper hub centric boss chamfer, above anything else.

Appreciate the info, all. With that being said, what spacers would you guys go with for the G87 keeping in mind being hubcentric, made of the right material, and it isn’t too heavy.

For the reasons above, I went Future Classic. Hubcentric, lightest of the lot, made of the above described material. But I also only consider them a temp stop gap until light weight wheels come in to replace the oem boat anchors we get with our cars.
