USB Ports
Has anyone tried switching the data and charging port? I pretty much just use a memory stick for music and it would make a lot more sense if the data port were in the center console. It's insert and forget for 6 months and wouldn't clutter up the exposed area.

https://www.westerndigital.com/produ...CZ430-512G-G46 I have the 512GB version and on it I have over 16,000 music tracks in FLAC format up to 24 bit and it works a dream Superb playback quality and fast searching. I leave it permanently attached and it's no clutter or inconvenience at all. Just an alternative approach should you not be able to switch. |

I've tried a few times to do this (music via USB to improve quality over wireless) with mixed success. The main thing I haven't been able to accomplish is Playlists. Are you successfully using Playlists and if so, what's your method/format? Thanks. |

I scan the albums and just jump in...have two sticks with about 1,500 albums on each. I tried formatting a 1 TB HD into two distinct Drives (A + B) trying to 'con' the system into thinking it was two separate drives, but it then missed out on a large number of albums that would not even display. Once I got the number of files (not tracks) down below the 16,384 (on each 512GB USB stick), it worked a dream with ALL the music playable and ALL in top quality. Others in the forum(s) seem to have had issues with 24-bit Hi-Res FLAC files, yet mine play with absolute clarity. These threads have some info on USB sticks:- https://g20.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...xFAT+USB+stick https://g20.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...xFAT+USB+stick Good luck. |

Have you tried creating m3u files with an app on your pc? I used to create them when using memory sticks for music storage in the past. Haven’t messed with that for years but I bet that’s what the head unit would use.

This one is so low profile you’ll forget its there in the front port. It’s the one I got too.

Good suggestion, but yes I have created/tried m3u files as Playlists, but they do not show up in iDrive8 (while Albums, Artists and Songs do.)
