My 2024 G87 M2
Posting this again, mostly to document the process. (I had posted a thread about a week ago, and all of my posts got deleted.)
I also did this about 8-9 years ago, when I had ordered my current vehicle, the 2016 F30 340i. (different forum) It was time for a new car for me, and ultimately decided on the new M2 and put in my order at a nearby dealership on 11/17. I was told that i would be getting the next allocation for this particular dealership. I received a phone call on 12/8 from the CA and they told me they received their allocation. I don't know what this means for the timeline moving forward, but I'm looking forward to it! |

CA just called me to say my car is in the production queue today. Received VIN.
Now I have to browse to see what others have experienced in timing from this point on! Last edited by xtougher; 12-14-2023 at 02:47 PM.. Reason: typo |

At least this time, it's not coming across the Atlantic, so once it's on a ship, there's less time to wait! But it's getting to THAT point that's gonna be rough! |

I called the Genius number on 12/18 and they told me my car was slated for a week 4 build (week of 1/22).
My CA had told me he expects the car to be out of the assembly line right around Christmas. I called the Genius number again yesterday (12/26) and they said my car is slated for a 1/17 build. No clue what to think. |

Called the Genius number today and they said they expect the car to come out of assembly 1/17.
Website still just says "in production queue", so no change there. I added the MP HAS (Z58) today as well. Rear trunk spoiler in carbon fiber still not in stock. |

Another call to the Genius number today and they are saying I will have some sort of update 1/16. Not exactly sure if that means they think production will actually start on the vehicle, or something else. We'll see.
Website still says "in production queue". |

Once it gets moving in production it will go quick. Mine sat in the "In the Production Queue" status for 18 days, then by day 20 (2 days later) it was in "Ready for Transport".

I'm trying to NOT call the Genius line frequently, since I figure that will only drive me crazy. 😝 But checking the website daily, along with a once a week call to the Genius number is the way I've been waiting. Now, after production is done, not self-imposing a once a week Genius call rule! |

I have been using a chrome extension to see my production date, as the page inspect never worked out for me. I think at Strauss 150 this starts being helpful. I've seen it change production date from 24th to 23rd. I no longer have to call Genius to see this information.

Website is saying "assembly in progress".
CA called me just a bit ago and said it could complete assembly and go into quality check by the end of the day. Called the Genius and they said assembly is scheduled to be completed today and then it will go into quality check. Good news! It's happening! Summary: 11/17 - ordered through dealership 12/9 - allocation received through dealership 12/14 - "production begins" and car is "in production queue" and VIN received 1/15 - website updated to "assembly in progress" 1/16 - Genius & CA confirmed assembly should be complete today |

Website has now passed "quality check" and is showing "final assembly".
Genius says the car has been handed off to sales, and will soon be headed to the port to await the next ship. |

CA called last night (1/19) and said the car has arrived at the port, and is now awaiting a ship.
Website still says "final assembly" and the Genius said it is likely on its way to the port. I guess I'm essentially in "ready for transport" at this point! Somewhere, I read that there were essentially just two ships who make these trips to pick up the cars and take them to the various stateside ports. Is that a good way to keep an eye on when the next ship or two will arrive? Last edited by xtougher; 01-20-2024 at 01:23 PM.. Reason: clicked too soon |

I wouldn't say there's a "good way," but it can kind of be done. In the shipping megathread, the main car carriers have been identified and you can go to maritime websites to track them. Your CA can tell you what ship your car is on, once the ship debarks the mexico port (usually Veraruz IIRC). ("For example, I was the the Glottis Spirit, long ago.) And then you can track it on maritime traffic websites. And you can likewise look up which VPC services your dealer, and what arrival port that is, and sometimes get the ships port visit schedule from maritime websites or the port website itself. So it's a lot of work, a lot of conjecture, and some informed guesses. but it can more or less be done. Some of us did it for fun! |

I was just curious if the list of ships was indeed fairly small, I could piece together a rough estimate of something like "the next ship is due at the port in Mexico within the next week or so, which means my car COULD make it on that ship in X number of days after that" or something to that effect. Thanks! |

Checked the website last night and it says "ready for transport".
CA said that it was at the port 4 days ago, but who knows what that means. All I know is that this one of the bigger variables in the timeline, so we just wait. |
