Exhaust is a disappointment compared to my X3MC

I am really surprised that the exhaust is so quiet on my 24 G87. I just heard my wife leave in the 22 x3mc and it has me thinking time for a upgrade to Papa Smurf.

How do you open the valves on the stock exhaust?

Seems that most like the full Valvetronic Designs - Valved Sport Exhaust System, anything else I should look at?

Thanks

I have the Valvetronic and like it very much so I am a little biased. May also want to check out Fi.

Stupid question, but does that eliminate the catalytic converters?

No, the cats are in the downpipes, so the the system doesn’t cause any CELs.
I too have the full Valvetronic system and love it. Highly recommend.

In the same boat. I can hear my wife start her X3MC in the garage on the other side of the house. Can't hear the M2

Single or equal length midpipe + an axle back will fix the sound problem

Just switched out my 2018 F87 yesterday for the G87. Thought the G was quieter but I was at the dealership, not sure how much was run before I got there. At any rate, I cold started the G this morning and was surprised how tame she sounded, so much so that my neighbor commented that I got a quieter car.

This is of course pure perception, but my daughter's cold start on her M240 "seems" louder than my new M2.

Big difference with the valves closed, valves opened OEM style and valves fully opened.

Primary cats are in the downpipes. If you are concerned with the full catback and State inspection, cant answer. If you are concerned with throwing a CEL, you are good to go, no CEL.

I rented a z4 m40i before I bought my G87 and was surprised at how much fruitier the startup was on the z4. I wouldn't mind a little more theater in my G87 . . .

I bit the bullet and ordered the active autowerke single midpipe - so dang expensive, but between a sale and discount code made it still too expensive but Yolo. I'm excited to install it, but with the holidays, I'm unsure how fast it will come.

Have a full stainless steel Valvetronic setup on my car (posted a video in that thread for those interested).

I thought the car sounded good stock in Sport+ / valves open always open…

Now it sounds menacing. Best $3k ever spent.

I joked when I first got her it as like an ev it was so quiet especially coming from a v8 with long tube headers. Even in sport/ sport + with valves open (efficient with them closed is silent).

A simple mid pipe upgrade will change that. AA equal length mid for example.

Could go all out if wanted and do down pipe and axle back as well but starting with just the mid is a big change.

No, I have not had any drone issues. Highflow catted downpipe is going on this week so will let you know if this has any effect.
