Compared: All of the Aftermarket Grilles for the G87 M2.

Hello!

We've recently had the opportunity to compare all of the available grille upgrade options for the brand new G87 M2.

From launch, the G87 M2 has been fairly divisive for its looks. One of the notable areas of contention are grilles.

As such, the aftermarket has been quick to develop some alternative options to stock - allowing for improvement and personalisation.

As we offer a number of brands on the AUTOID store, we're in a unique position to be able to test them from an unbiased position and offer our views.

Let us know what your preference would be.

All of the grilles are available to purchase on our store here:
https://autoid.co/collections/bmw-g8...e=Front+Grille

Here is the video:

My issues with the current available grille options:
1. No gloss black
2. Prices are a bit ridiculous

Both are available in gloss black or carbon for a reasonable price here?

Thanks for the link, but I don't consider $695 for a piece of plastic a reasonable price. Especially when the aftermarket grille on my 330 (that was identical to OEM) was $89.

If Autotecknic has them for $695 they're probably $100 on Ali Express. I'll have to search.

Just curious, when and where did you get an aftermarket grille for $89?

Ebay. This grille was $89, but it's now up to $98. And fyi an almost identical to the Alpha grille is on Ali Express for $255 in carbon fiber.

Agreed. G87 does not have the grill issues that the other G8X’s have thankfully, so I think anything else may come off a bit overdone. It’s just not a large enough space to make a huge aesthetic difference as is the “CSL style” open grills on the M3/4.

Adro vertical grill for sure. But as others have mentioned, pricing is way out of hand for these parts. Pass for me and kudos to anyone willing to drop bread on non-performance-enhancing carbon.

Lets be honest...of all the cf parts available, how much is REALLY performance enhancing?

Haha fair point. I’m a bit hypocritical I guess, given I’ve got a little carbon spoiler on the back. But $270 for a nice visual improvement is reasonable. I can’t justify $700 for a relatively minor visual-only improvement (front grill). And I certainly can’t justify $1200 for a carbon splitter when I know my dumb-ass will crack it eventually.

Maybe it’s my 27-year-old budget speaking. Lol.

Gloss Black variants are in production at the moment for the CSL, Performance style grilles.

Gloss Black will ultimately be what I keep on the car I think. When our variant of grille is developed, it will be avaliable in GB & CF.

+1 on the vertical grill but the prices are ridiculous tbh. I have older cars with parts that have been NLA for years now, and these are like "we cracked open a 20 year old box in storage and found the last OEM whatchamacallits in existence" prices. I've gotten full bumpers shipped over from europe for similar cash. ultimately i guess the market will decide.

Watched your video yesterday and agreed with you, the CSL style grille looked best IMO on your car.

Meh, they all look mediocre. The grille isn't a sub $1000 problem on this car.

I'm beginning to think these big after market companies are delusional or haven't figured out their time is coming. More people are learning how to search Chinese marketplaces online these days and the reselling for +300-600% isn't gonna work much longer in the way it has in the past.

Hopefully, some of the great aftermarket companies can continue developing their own pieces that sets them apart from the stuff on Chinese marketplaces e.g. Alpha-N trunk.

Anyways... the video was enjoyable. Hoping you guys continue making cool comparison videos like this.

Like everything, the market dictates all. There's folks out there with enough $$ that will pay the premium on cosmetic carbon. Humbly speaking, I do not sit in that camp. Being 27 in the Bay Area with an M2 is already expensive enough.

That being said, it is refreshing to see more and more folks post here about outrageous pricing for these carbon parts - good for vendors to also take note - but they'll likely do nothing about it... margins are fat I'm sure.

I don't mind paying a premium for a CF part if it's

1) good enough quality

and most important

2) unique to the company and not something everyone is gonna have some replica of like 99% of spoilers and front lips people have now
