Zunsport Oil Cooler Grille vs Mishimoto Skid Plate

I’ve been looking into these to buy for my car and am kind of worried about how big the holes are for the Mishimoto skid plate but then again, it provides more impact protection then a Zunsport stainless steel grille would I assume.

People with either or both products, how do you feel about them?

I have the ZunSport and feel it offers sufficient protection. I may add a couple washers on the bolts/screws to add a little space between it and the cooler. It is made from stainless steel & I feel pretty stout.

I think both are out of stock right now but I have the same concern so was thinking of getting the Mishimoto plate, drilling some holes and then bolting in some mesh over the big triangle holes on the skid plate. The plate will definitely provide a bit more protection from bigger debris which is a good thing.

Since my car is lowered, I went with the Mishimoto route. Ordered during the rock into oil cooler fiasco of 2023 so I won't see the item for a couple of months most likely. I went with the skit plate because it provides more peace of mind under the car than the mesh.

I think the chances of something getting through the holes in the Mishimoto at just the right angle are pretty slim. I prefer the extra protection of running over something big like a rock or board in the road, or a parking bumper. And, yes, you could add mesh on top of it.

I got the ZunSport in today and it is stronger than I expected. I will admit the Mishimoto looks better.

I agree, I find it extremely unlikely something substantial enough to do damage could get through the mishimoto given the angles and coverage.

How hard was install on jack stands? Mine shows up tomorrow!

I'd recommend pick up a pair of Rhino Ramps for about $50. If using jack stands you don't want to place them as shown in the pic above. Use the proper jack points.

From kies motorsports. I’m pretty sure I was able to grab one of the last few they had left in stock.

After watching the phd racing video with the aero, I would love one of these that had a graduated slope at the back to encourage the front end to stay down and air to exit the duct.

Aftermarket, if you're listening... plz gibb.

I have a few of these unspoken for on the way from Mishimoto, they've been on backorder for quite some time.

Otherwise, the Turner Motorsport ones are great and offer additional protection for the sides, we offer both:

I will take a Mishimoto from you if you expect them soon. I have an order on backorder with another vendor but was told 12 weeks. Let me know.

I'd be interested in one of the Mishimoto's as well if you have any left from this batch.

2̶ m̶o̶r̶e̶ a̶v̶a̶i̶l̶a̶b̶l̶e̶, Mishimoto's been sending us these as quickly as they've been getting them in stock.

Shoot me over a PM and I'll put your name on one of them.

Edit: both units sold, more coming soon.

Here's my review thread

The weight difference between the stock and the Mishimoto is 4.9 lbs. if anyone is wondering.

Just got a mesage from Mishimoto saying my unit is ready to ship out. Seems they restocked earlier than the 8-10 week backorder they originally predicted. For reference, I ordered on December 26th

I was thinking of getting the zunsport as well.

How was the install of the screws into the plastic? Did they screw in easily?

Also, is it easy to uninstall and install the screws into the same hole after taking it out?
