Egged M2

I was driving home last night when I got eggs thrown at me out of no where. I stopped, but luckily couldn’t find whoever did it. Turns out someone was egging cars in town last night as they drove by. People still do this in 2023!?!?

After cleaning up the mess, I’m stuck with these two very annoying dings. One on the hood and the rear quarter panel. I talked to a couple BMW certified body shops and I was quoted thousands to repaint 2 panels….

I found the Dr. Color Chip kit and seen a couple videos on YouTube fixing egg damage. Anyone have first hand experience with this?

Any other suggestions? Weighing out my options before I go full repaint mode.

I couldn’t believe the damage was caused by an egg at first myself. When the egg shell cracks against the car, it wrecks the paint into all these little cracks and chips

Who would have thought a full PPF job could have saved you from egg damage.

I just did dr color chip on my car with a chip. U definately have to do it multiple times if u can see the primer like I see on your first photo. It also finishes a bit Matte. Not as shiny as clear coat. If it’s somewhere where it’s highly visible, u might be annoyed with the end product. If it’s lower bumper or side skirts or something not as visible it’s fine.

Needs to be painted, touching up that much damage will look terrible. People really suck.

Definitely egg damage, I've seen it - like back in high school in the '70s. Kinda hard to believe that's still going on. At least we did it on halloween and didn't try to hit cars!

Good luck, hopefully you can find a solution that doesn't require repainting panels.

I had a truck load come through my neighborhood and get my Honda. The eggshells left the same damage. I did use touch up paint, but it doesn’t look pretty. It’s an 11 year old car with 190k miles, though.

And your Honda was stationary? OP's car was moving which makes the damage worse (force of impact from both speed of car and speed of flying eggs).

This would be a vandalism claim with your insurance and would be covered by your comprehensive coverage. It will only cost you your deductible and won't affect your rates.

I would confirm with your insurance carrier but you may need a police report.

When I was like a month into my F87 ownership, my car got egged too. It was parked, so damage looked less severe than yours but there were similar swirl-like patterns. And I only discovered it in the morning and had to go to work so didn’t have time to address it until 12 hrs later. I was able to get some of the swirls out with an orbital buffer. I’d give that a shot if you haven’t tried yet. Sorry dude, that’s rotten Iuck.

That’s why I have low deductible comprehensive coverage on all our vehicles. Back in the early 90s I had a a nice car and had it keyed and a rock taken to it over the span of a few years. Insurance claims were very straightforward and didn’t have to provide any police reports. Also had a tree branch fell on the hood of our X5 when my wife was driving which required it to be replaced. Cost to do this was roughly $3300, only cost me $100 deductible.

Wow that sucks. Didn't realize eggs could do that kinda damage. It'd be on the hunt for the culprits.

You realize you pay a higher premium for a low deductible plan (whether they explained this or not)...so you are paying one way or the other.

Depending on the number of claims filed since then, it’s possible you’re behind the premium 8-ball.

As others have said, this should be a comprehensive claim with your insurance, but may have to get a police report.

I understand how it works quite well. For me and my wife there wasn’t much premium at all for the low deductible. My agent who I have known for many years runs various scenarios with deductibles and we then make risk-cost-benefit decisions. If you make one comp claim you generally come out ahead, particularly with more expensive vehicles to repair.

The F is wrong with people. Egging, keying or otherwise messing with someone's car regardless of what it is is an act of cowardice and blatant disregard for others. What purpose would this even serve? Hopefully karma catches up with them quickly.

Eggs today, guns tomorrow ...then either six feet under or jail.
