Voice Commands

Anyone have an issue using the bmw voice commands, any time i say anything it always says that it didnt understand and please repeat or something like that then the second time works perfectly. but hasnt failed that the first time i must repeat it but the second time it understands after not saying it any different.

I went through the setting and i didnt notice anything that needed to be changed or anything.

Works first time about 90% of the time for me, I find it is actually better than I expected. Works much better than the system in our 2021 Macan.

Agree, no complaints/issues from my MY23 G87 or MY23 G42 M240.

was there anything that you needed to do to get it working like that? I mean i speak clearly and have very little accent and i cannot get it to do anything 1st try, saying an address, changing temps or anything. I have no issues the second time (i repeat the exact same words) so i would doubt that its my wording or clarity but i dont know.

Agreed.
No voice recognition system is perfect.

For me , I quickly realised that I could carryout any voice command much quicker by doing it myself...the voice command thing is nice, but far from necessary...it's an old person thing.

No, it’s not.
Thanks for the shallow opinion.

I just ensure the system is ready to receive the command by ensuring the “swirling dots” or whatever it is called is visible, whether using voice to initiate the listening state, or pushing the steering wheel button.

Try to give it a second after waking it up with the code word or the button. Probably it is still booting up when you start talking.

I went through some practice with the voice control. Had the owners manual open to that chapter/section.

Got reasonably proficient. But then didn't use voice control any more other than for NAV. And with NAV it is hit or miss. Rather than repeat myself some times before the NAV system finally gets it, I need to remember to enter destination info *before* setting out rather than try to do it via voice control underway.

It's most likely an Australian thing (as well). We do have a tendency not to take ourselves to seriously in the great southern land.

I lobbed this up on another thread as I was trying to decipher why "turn on/off air-conditioning" always resulted "it's already on/off" even when it was/wasn't.

Yet to try all of it, but the same experience of completely missing the word (directions) or coming sort of near (like "fish" and "cow" are similar sounding). Awfully average for some things, but seems to get mostly right with some very basic commands it must have been well taught like "call this person or that person" (so somehow hears a name and gets it right most often).

Can't recall the thread now but someone posted a link to a video of two Scottish men in an elevator and interacting with the elevator's voice controls.

Here is the video...
