Front plates in the Portland\ Hillsboro Area
Hi All,
Just picked up my Manual G80 in Brooklyn grey and I am struggling with the decision to put on the front plates which really ruins the look, looking for some advice from my PNW buddies , put the plates on or chance it pay the fine if pulled over ?, Thanks Chris |

For me, I bought the Stonsho removable plate. I have not installed it yet though and just going to risk it until I get pulled over or a ticket. Rather not install it as I like the look without it but at least I have it in case.

Yeah I got the Sto-n-Sho as well. You will be fine to not have it on while driving. If you park anywhere on the street in Portland, there is a good chance they will ticket you. Sto-N-Sho is nice because you can just put the plate on when you park.

I've been running the Rho Plate tow hook mount most of my M3's life. I've lived and worked in the area for 20 years and the Hillsboro and Beaverton police have, off an on, been less than reasonable about plates and other minor infractions. I've had a ton of friends and coworkers have issues with it over the years.
They have, I think, backed off recently, but I'd never trust it that it'll last. |

I struggled with the same question. I prefer to run a front plate on my cars but with the G8Xs, it just looks bad. I should also mention that I live out in the sticks east of Salem so mostly avoid downtown Portland.
My first choice was to install Sto-n-Show but keep the plate on all the time. That did not offend my sense of aesthetics, but was awfully low and, careful as I was, it scraped and banged up the plate as well as the mount. I actually went out and got replacement plates -- thankfully not too expensive in Oregon. Then I ordered the Carbonio mount but (1) installation I found was difficult and (2) the plate ended up too far forward, I thought. I gave up after spending $300 on substandard solutions and now run naked up front. I am also a very conservative driver so have not had any conversations with Johnny Law. YMMV. If you're up for a drive to the Silver Falls area, free $200 Carbonio mount to a good home...

I’m down south in Eugene, but haven’t run a front plate for over a year with no issue. I have a tow hook mount but much prefer the no plate look on my BGM.
