Lack of 360 camera equals this...

This is how I park. All the time. With the biggest fear of scraping the bumper.

Am I the only one?

Maybe. Somehow people were able to park cars before cameras. If you're worried about it, just back in.

Well I swear I’m close to the curb but I never am.

I have my wife get out and guide me in if I can’t back in and she is around. Otherwise yeah I’m about that close as I have a front lip.

Backing in solves the problem.

Before cars had sensors and cameras you got out to see how much room you had until you eventually became acclimated to the car and knew how close you could get. It's become a lost art.

Just like people who don't look when backing up, they rely solely on their rear camera.

Yes, this is 100% how I park. The front sensors don't seem to pick up the curbs well enough. After scraping the bottom of my bumper on my last 2-er, I take no chances.

Thank you! The front is huge and after 2500 miles I still haven’t gotten used to it. It’s my 3rd car but I treat her a little nicer bc she’s the newest.

And the people who solely rely on their blind spot monitor so they don't ever bother to look before changing lanes. Of course driving aids were made to help supplement good driving habits, but people tend to be lazy and are happy to outsource their driving to the technology.

As a result of poor and lack of intense training. Driver training will help much of this. The initial training and a more difficult test to simply obtain a license for a technical exercise such as driving.

Parking in my garage or in my apartment complex most of the time I back my cars in. In a parking lot with double parking rows I drive through a space and pull forward into the other space then sometimes fine tune how close the rear of the car is to the dividing line between the space I'm parking in and other space behind me. At other times with just a single row of spaces all with a sidewalk or curb at their head I still manage to back in.

When I do for some reason end up having to park the car nose in I use the bottoms of the outside rear view mirrors and when they reach a certain position with whatever is at the front of the parking space -- most often a sidewalk or a curb stone -- to know the car is reasonably close to the sidewalk/curb stone.

One of the first things I do with a new car is practice nose in parking to learn how to accurately judge by the outside rear view mirror bottoms how close to the point I am before I should stop and pull in no further. I do this for parking into spaces where are straight in or angled. It works out that by this method I end up with a reasonable cushion of space between the front of the car and any sidewalk/curb. By reasonable roughly between 12 inches to 18 inches. But I almost always am closer to 12 inches than 18".

'course, in deciding what sighting of the mirror bottoms I will use I have confirmed not only is the nose of the car not too close to any sidewalk/curb but the rear of the car is not hanging out. So far parking spaces are big enough with the nose of the car 12" to 18" from the curb the car fits quite well in the space.

If I feel this technique may not be suited to the space I'm using because vehicles are on either side of the space and I can see the curb line -- and there are no more suitable spaces -- I activate the parking distance control and the sensors at the front/sides of the car provide some help to me in avoiding obstacles.

Will also add my SOP is to select a parking space that I am most comfortable with when it comes to parking my car into. This often has me parking a bit of a distance away from where I'm going.

I back in 99% of the time so I avoid this issue. When I do have to pull in forward, this is almost entirely the case.

When I had my G42, I lowered the car and I was pulling into a car meet early, I decided to pull in forward because I was going to move anyway.

The car didn't realize it was lower, so the park distance control wasn't activating, and it seemed like the camera froze or something because I was looking directly at the screen and had space when I heard the crunch of the OEM CF splitter. Parking block tore up a $2k piece of carbon fiber.

After that, never again. Id rather leave 20 feet in front than destroy the front bumper on my G87. But again, I just back it in almost every time and I park so far from everyone.

I also spent several years as a valet during college and we were required to back all cars in. So it's just habit. I can probably back in and/or parallel park faster than someone who pulls in forward. Skills

Could also supplement with sliplo or ez-guard for some slightly added protection?

i have noticed that occasionally my sensors do not beep even when they are picking up a curb up front so i have made it a habit to throw the car in reverse for a hot second to bring up the reverse cam and then select "parking sensors only" which seems to help

It has been my experience with this car (unlike my prior Infiniti), that the parking sensors actually work. I get beeps (and reasonable distance indicators) when a curb is at a height that will hit the front lower bodywork. The Infiniti would notice a person or wall, and that was about it.

But, after having scraped the front of my Miata (no sensors), I've learned to not try to drive into a space until the front wheels hit something.
