Carbahn Stage 2 vs MHD/bm3

Carbahn’s Stage 2 package claims to bring around 600 wheel hp with 93 octane fuel, so I’m assuming that translates to anywhere from 550-570 whp on 91 octane (which is the shit we have in CA), which is still a good 100ish wheel horsepower gain over stock but not sure if it justifies the price you have to pay. I saw a video of a guy who got the stage 2 package from Carbahn on his G80 and it came out to nearly $7000… (price includes Femto unlock, installation of new heat exchanger, factory matching warranty, and the tune itself) and when he dyno’d his car, it was around a 77 whp gain on 93 octane, granted his car was xDrive so there’s more parasitic loss but I’d really expect more after all that money.

In comparison everyone says downpipe and tune with some e brings you to 700 wheel on the S58 but how reliable is that? In that sense, the Carbahn is the “safest” option since Steve Dinan has been tuning BMWs for who knows how long now and is confident enough to offer a warranty on his products.

Let me know you guys’ thoughts. I don’t really want to go with a piggyback like a JB4 because I had one on my g20 and the logs never looked right.

I'm kinda curious as well, we get 92 octane in OR, so 93 octane tunes aren't happening, and it seems like the difference between BM3 and piggyback boxes on 91 octane are ~10-20 whp, and the cost difference is quite large, so I'm not sure it's worth it unless there are noticeable driveability differences.

If you are going the Femto unlock route, get the bm3. It's the best value, with solid off-the-shelf maps and the ability to get a custom map if you want more power.

In my opinion, the warranty thing is purely an advertisement strategy. Hundreds of thousands of tuned cars are on the market; if these things were breaking, this forum would be filled with voided warranty threads.

Would you recommend using the ACN maps for us that live in Arizona/California/Nevada? I’ve heard we have even shittier 91 than the rest of the country therefore we need to tone down the maps even more if we plan on using pump gas. Does MHD have the option for ACN maps?

we do have the shittiest 91 in the country

use the ACN map or mix in some E85 and you can use the more aggressive maps.
