Powder coating or paint (893M) wheel repair
Managed to scratch the gloss black on 893M wheels with the barrel brush when I was cleaning them.
Does anyone know if they are powder coated or painted and how one might go about repairing them? Will post pics of damage soon but here’s some pics of the area before the scratches The side face of the barrel |

Difficult to see what you’ve done to the wheels - might have been an idea to wash them before photographing them.
However, the black parts are painted, the silver parts are diamond cut. I’d avoid any repair to the diamond cut unless absolutely necessary. Repairs will corrode. If I were you, I’d get a smart repairer to look at them. Depending on their assessment, and they are very good at sorting problems theses days, I either get a smart repair or leave it. Dirt and brake dust covers a multitude of problems and only you will know. Finally, ditch any bristled brushed and buy one of these: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1 And a set of genuine wheel woolies to clean wheels. Also don’t use any “wheel cleaner” you don’t need it if you regularly clean the wheels. |

I rinsed, used iron fallout remover, lathered it, brushed the barrels and the bristles must have rubbed dirt into the wheels. Dirt and brake dust covers it, as in it will be so dirty I won’t even see it? Cause that’s what I was thinking, might leave it 😂😂 |

Nope, pre rinse, iron fall out remover, soft mit with soap, finally the auto ID barrel brush. In that order. Must have been poor with the pre rinse and rubbed dirt into it.

That may still be in the clear coat. Start with this, Presta 131932 Ultra Cutting Crème https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00063WGZS...lig_dp_it&th=1 then move on to a polish to finish the correction. If the presta isn't enough, wet sand 1500grit, then presta and polish. This only works if you didn't get through the clear coat. Last edited by Ruebarb; 02-27-2024 at 02:07 PM.. |
