Swapping track tires: Contis Extremecontact Force!

Wow these are noticeably lighter than my Falken Azenis.

I have decided to ditch the Falken's. Why?

So first off I put 275 / 295 18s RE-71RSs on our OG M2 and was immediately amazed by how well it rode. Second I was happy with the wear. Third I was happy with their predictability. Also they are asymmetric so it would be easy to rotate them left to right.

Compare this to my 305 / 315 19 RT660s on my G87. They rode extremely rough. Tire wear didn't look great after a couple track days.

Then there was the screw in my front pass tire. I can do a plug/patch kit and it will probably be fine, but my front left is pretty shot. I have some pretty odd wear and is probably a combo of Roebling Road being brutal on that tire and driving a bit on the street. So I was at a crossroads needing 2 new fronts.

I almost went with RE71s but I would have needed to go 275 / 285 combo. My wheels are 10.5 and 11. I think it would have worked and I would have got some added rear tire height which would prevent hitting my speed limiter at the track.

But then I did some more looking and was able to get a decent discount through a NASA partner for the Contis.

I ended up going 295/30 up front and 315/30 in the back. The tread width is a bit narrower than the Azenis in the back but it is slightly taller. The car may have a bit more rake but we will see how that pans out once I finish up my Ohlins.

But man they are light. It's a bit eerie. Looking at the charts it's like 16lbs (5 per front, 3 per rear) lighter for the set over my Falkens. Personally I like the look. I wish they were asymmetric and not rotational, but that also means I will get to use up more of the tire when i do a remount and balance.

I should have them on the car sometime next week and will be on the track at Roebling Road on the 11th. Won't be a direct comparison cuz I will also have my Ohlins R&T on the car.

Interesting, report back on how they are on the track. Could be a great tire.
