Finally installed the AA single mid

So today I was finally able to install my AA single mid. I have to say, the AA quality is top notch. Fitment to finish, it’s amazing. I went with the single for a slighter deeper yet softer tone as opposed to a AA EL I heard previously. Also, I’m not huge into weight savings or anything but the weight difference is astonishing. No, I didn’t weigh them both but I did lift both and the difference is drastic. Some quick pics of the difference. Thanks to mike@x-ph.com for the hookup.

Any questions feel free to ask. I did use a chain type cutter and it resulted in an extremely clean cut and easy fitment. 2nd dimple on both sides. I also used a spacer on the rear bracket brace until all was tightened properly and resulted in no vibrations or odd noises. 👍🏼

Might be a weird request, but I am curious what the inside of the stock secondary cats look like. Any way you can get a pic? Also, any insight to what the stock mid pipe weighs?

Jackie Ding weighed the stock midpipe (48 lbs) and the AA single midpipe with clamps/brace/etc (21 lbs). So 27 lb weight savings.

Great pics, thank you. How much lower is that bracket from the stock bracket once installed? 1/2 inch? Does it stick out lower than anything else under the car? ie if you straddle an object in the road is that bracket now the lowest point?

Also how much louder would you say the exhaust note is inside the car? My plan is to disable ASD and like to drive by the sound of the engine. Don't care what it sounds like for others, just care what it sounds like to me inside the car. Easy to still hear your radio and have a conversation with your passenger?

Bracket does not appear to be any lower than stock and the rear case is definitely lower than the bracket.

Sound. I finally was able to disable ASD and be happy with the sound. Now I do have the SST controller and with flaps at 100% it’s perfect “for me” inside and out. Can still make it quiet enough with valves closed. Hope this helps.

Just saw this. From my recent midpipe swap, the secondary cats have the typical honeycomb when you look inside. Sorry I can't take a pic as I have the stock parts packed up in storage.

I've noticed both the MAD and the AA single midpipes appear to pinch down to 2.5" at these swivel joints. Are there any plans to enlarge those to maintain the 3" throughout?

We understand that most customers won't see a noticeable benefit since the majority are likely to stay below the 800 WHP range. However, based on our data and multiple cars running over 900 WHP with our midpipe, there is likely little difference in sound or performance. That said, we’ll reassess and, if it doesn’t impact the retail price, consider increasing the pipe size to 2.75" or 3".

For those who would benefit from larger piping, we’re planning to focus on this with the future FATBOY version of our single midpipe for the m3/m4 that may see its way to the g87 as well at a later date..
