Considering buying a new 24 M2 but no local dealers have M2s in stock to test drive. I'm may be able to test drive an M240i however. I'm looking to get feedback on how the M2's steering and handling compare w/ the M240i? Weight the same? Feedback? Overall, does the M2 feel like a much more expensive car than the M240i?

I have both a MY23 G87 and a MY23 M240 rwd. Both cars are 8AT. In comparison, its night and day in all aspects. The M240 is quick and feels a little light handling wise. The G87, on the other hand, is a beast in comparison. It has a much better feel, and planted to the road drive.

After having a M240 as a loaner, test driving an M340, and my wife test driving an X3 M40i when we were considering new vehicles, none of those became a serious consideration. The full M vehicles are just better in every aspect.

I traded in my G42 for my G87. I mostly agree with this. In particular I think the chassis (not the ride) feels much stiffer, leading to better road feel and a feeling of power and control.

My X drive G42 was a beast off the line though, G87 is a manual so feels a bit slower off the line (on snow tires and I have not really launched it through).

Not a M240i but my 2024 230xi steering feel is quite different from that of my 2023 M2.

The 230xi steering feel has a bit of a vagueness to it that had me bringing this to the attention of my service advisor who booked the car in for an alignment check. 'course, it was found to be ok.

But I still note the difference between the steering when I switch from the 230xi to the M2 and vice versa. But I still drive and enjoy driving the 230xi.

If we're focusing on the steering feeling only, coming from a 20 M340i (which is practically the same car as M240i), what I can think of:

- M2's steering feels lighter. Yes, it is the first thing I noticed when taking delivery of the car. The "Sport" mode is somewhere between M340i's "Comfort" and "Sport".
- M2's steering wheel's self-centering force is weaker? You kinda need to help it back to the center coming out of a turn.
- M2's steering response is faster. On M340i, if you do a quick turn or twitch the steering wheel, there's a short but noticeable delay between turning steering wheel and car actually turning. M2 is much sharper and follows agilely.
- There's more vibration coming through the steering wheel on M2. So a bit more road feel.

Is there a sport+ setting on the M2? How is the steering effort in that mode?

Point 1- steering is not lighter and Sport mode is far more aggressive than midway Comfort/Sport
Point 2- no, you don’t
Point 3- agree
Point 4- road feel yes but absolutely no vibration whatsoever

I can't seem to feel the steering being more "aggressive" in Sport (I was only talking about the feeling of setting only Steering to Sport, not the rest of the car). The only thing changed in Sport Steering appear to be the weight, at least from what I can tell. Even in Comfort mode, the steering is very precise and passes every slight input to the car.

Tires also affect steering feel a lot. Went from PS4 ZP (BMW Star) to PS4S (Non BMW Star) in the M340i, while it had more grip, the steering response and feelings in general became worse. My M2 has PS4S (BMW Star). So the weight/responsiveness may also attribute to tires.

What tires do the 2 setups have? I imagine a lot of the difference in steering feel might come from the larger size tires on the front of the M2, and perhaps even the compound. Stock the M240 comes with what 225 in the front and the ZTK package with 245. If I am not mistaken the M2 has 275 fronts? If one went with 255 or 265 on the m240 perhaps the steering feel would get a lot closer.

Of course the chassis and suspension are completely different so the handling of the m2 will feel much nicer. But I’m speculating on the steering feel alone.
