Tuning our 2023 g87 m2 to 600whp with a stage 1 tune
Featured on BIMMERPOST.com It’s important to note that the car was running some supporting mods R44 200 Cell downpipes Eventuri intake - (Matte) OPF-back exhaust from Grail Which certainly helped although the stock airbox is actually really good on these G8X S58 vehicles - an intake isn’t necessary to make very good power. The Results *All figures below represent power at the crank, accounting for a 15% drivetrain loss. Stock - 478 bhp & 534 Nm (394 lb-ft) torque BMW claims OEM power output to be 474 bhp & 550 Nm (405 lb-ft) torque. Torque figures sitting slightly lower than expected but this could be down to the conditions on the day or the drivetrain loss conversion. We have previously tested the car’s standard power with the OEM intake, Ramair intake and Eventuri intake - all producing very similar stock power figures. Stage 1 - 674 bhp & 775 Nm (571 lb-ft) torque A 200 horsepower and 240 Nm torque gain at the crank with just a Stage 1 tune is a crazy increase and just goes to show how capable these cars are from factory. Remember, our M2 has OPF filters (mandatory for the UK/EU markets due to emissions) which are highly restrictive. US cars don’t have this problem so may see even higher gains. TAKE A WATCH In order to tune the S58 engine, we had to send our G87’s ECU over to Femto to be unlocked. We then re-installed the ECU and took the car up to Tom Wrigley Performance to be mapped by him and Mike Ball - the tuners behind our 1,000bhp G80 M3. Learn more about our M3 here : The map went through a number of revisions, being tested on both the dyno and on the road to ensure everything was perfect. This is the process we follow for all customer cars that choose to tune their S58-powered BMWs through ourselves and Tom Wrigley Performance here in the UK. Please feel free to share any of your own results, it would be cool to compare the figures lots of you guys are seeing, especially over in the US. How safe do you think the tune is? That’s a huge gain and I think everyone knows these engines have a ton of power to tap in to but I have to wonder what sort of loss in longevity you have to endure to hit these numbers.

Love the color on the m2 and 600+ hp on a stage 1 is unreal and more than enough for me! 1-3 gear must be fun haha. Nice job! 👍

Yeah, I'm at a loss here. I've never heard of any Stage 1 tune giving 200bhp. Those are Stage 2 numbers.

In the video you say the goal is to open up the engine because they are so "derestrictred". I think you meant "restricted"?

There is no way a “stage 1” gained 200 horsepower. All other stage 1 tunes on the S58 gain around 95 horsepower. The intakes are just for show, they won’t gain any power.

At what boost pressure? 40 PSI?
FYI, the car looks pretty hot though.

There are lots of errors in this video that even a rookie would catch right off the top. No Stage 1 power package adds 200+ HP. And he referred to this G87 M2 platform more then once as the S55, which we all know isn't true. Nice numbers, but there's only so much the stock fuel system & turbo can push. This is certainly a Stage 1.5 or 2 tune. Not a pure Stage 1. But nice try R44 guys. We all know it takes controversy from the start to get those click figures up. So job well done fellas. Mission accomplished...

I heard the Eventuri units do provide a smoother overall flow & therefore offer a touch more consistent air volume. There was a detailed deeper dive video somewhere showing the dimples on the inner walls of the intake inlet tubing that resembled the texture of a golf ball. And the smoother air flow increased the speed rolling over it resulting in better / easier breath for the S58 in the tight engine bay. This is something I'm confident the DINAN system doesn't have. To measure the HP gains on each unit would take some super precise equipment though. I did like the lower front bumper center section in the body color. That looked nice.

Kevin is correct. When tuned for it, the Eventuri has a benefit that I dont believe you will find with any other manufacturer. Most to all others have looks that people like but dont exceed what OEM is flow wise which is why it can be summized that OEM with replacement drop in filters from BMC is as good as most aftermarket products (other than Eventuri). |
