Sorry if this is a repeat post, but after the latest software update to 11/2023.73 I had to re-code everything using BimmerCode and decided to try to disable ASD once again and can finally confirm no more interior noises. Pressing the M1 button (exhaust flap open) gets a slight noise increase but I really only notice it when my windows are open. Everything else seems to have been disabled with all the interior noises.

Follow this post, as the regular options don't seem to do anything, but after following this, I really notice the difference. "Activation Codes" was on the top right of my app after hitting the 3 dots.

In Bimmercode, navigate to "Receiver Audio Module RAM"
There, you select "Expert Mode"
In Expert Mode, you select "3001_Audio und ASD"
There, you find all options starting with "ASD" and set them to "disabled" or "nicht aktiv"
Exit Expert Mode
On the bottom of the screen, tap "Activation Codes"
Find the one labelled "ASD" and select "Deactivate"

I couldn't believe how much of the pops and bangs and shift noise was completely fake lol....It honestly still sounds good even without it. I can't for the live of me understand why they don't have an option to disable it without having to flash it out of the car. Music sounds better too now that you don't have the fake engine noise droning through the sub.

Just got it done today. Honestly it’s absurd how they just implement the fake sounds and let us have no control about it. Sounds so natural now. The fakes are ridiculous.

This did not fully disable it when I deactivated it. When I followed the directions in the first post it finally deactivated.

Had previously turned off ASD in normal but not expert. The difference is night and day… reconsidering that midpipe now lol.

For me, if you're constantly turning it off, might as well get rid of it permanently. You gotta press the button every. single. time. you get in the car. Especially necessary if you've upgraded the sound system. The ASD becomes overly pronounced & drones.

But you can just save it in one of the M1/2 buttons to be off or on along with your drive settings

But again, you're constantly pressing buttons to get rid of something that is fake, useless & when you find it annoying. Way easier to code it out permanently when you don't ever want to hear it. If you need fake sounds to make your car sound good and exciting, well... that's like autotune.

I prefer the real exhaust noises, anyway.

So when you get in your car, you drive away in default comfort mode? First thing I do is hit a single button on the steering wheel, M1 or M2 and it’s off. Way too easy

You asked a question, and I answered why folks code ASD off permanently. You're arguing why you don't, which is fine, but I answered your question so I'm I am unsure why you're still asking about it.

But yes I drive in comfort mode unless I want to be in M1 or M2 mode. ASD is annoying AF, so I don't want to have to press a button all of the time to turn it off. So coding it off works!

Absolutely don’t get it. When you drive around in comfort, as you said, ASD is default off. Then if you want to drive in an M1/2 position, you would just save it ONE TIME to have the sound mode off, and you are good. How is there any reason to do otherwise?

I don't get what your problem is with coding it off permanently. For many people, it is an unwanted gimmick. And ASD is most certainly on & active in comfort mode. Given it's the mode I drive in by default, if it was off I would have felt no need to deactivate it. And it was especially annoying and intrusive after the stereo system upgrade I did.

Seems you posted your question just to argue about it. And it seems you don't get the purpose of coding a BMW.

So I'm gonna leave it at that & walk away at this point. You keep pressing all the buttons you want, I'll keep coding to activate the things I want & deactivate the things I don't. Two different but equally legitimate worlds we live in.

The only way to turn it off is by coding it off.

Sure pushing the M Sound button to turn M Sound OFF reduces the "noise", including reducing pops and bangs and such, but it doesn't turn ASD off.

There's another reason for coding it off, other than people being annoyed by it. Folks that upgrade the sound system report a lot of rumbling and drone coming from the subwoofer under the seat, as the new speakers are pushing the fake engine noise in an unintended way, so coding it off is necessary.

And, once again, there's no such thing as "COMFORT". Folks that say this car has a "COMFORT" mode have never driven the car. Unless they suppose a suspension setting changes the noise the car makes.

"Comfort" meaning not M1 or M2. And I mentioned that the stereo upgrade was another reason to code out ASD as it amplified the ASD.

When in any mode, if I press the M sound button I could clearly hear ASD turn off - no more fake engine/exhaust sound through the sound system. Pressing it again to turn it back on, I would clearly hear the rumble back in the sound system. That is what I mean by turning ASD (or M sound) on & off.

Coding it out permanently deactivates it - it removes the activation code from the car's programming. It is 100% disabled so I no longer have to press a button to turn it off. It is off & cannot be turned back on now by pressing the M sound button in the console.
