What settings do you guys use to let the rear slip a little without needing to change your shorts?

MDM feels a little too conservative. I tried four and that let me get out a bit more than I was expecting. I an on six now but I think I'll probably land on five.

Word to the wise, remember the car is rwd. When messing with traction control and accelerating hard when say turning out of a parking lot onto main street or turning off side street onto a msin street, be mindful of your rear end (and wanting to come around).

Funny you mentioned, because about 30 days in I almost crashed it lol. I turned MDM to 6 to see what it's like. I went around a turn at a good speed to beat the light cross traffic had just turned green. I wasn't fully straight and I punched it, and the car went sideways swinging right to left a couple times! And I ended up straight when it was done and I opened my eyes it wasn't totalled lol. The rest of that week I drove it like I was in a break in period again lol.

Since I have put it to 7 for a couple weeks, yesterday I put it in 6, and testing 5. 95% of the time I have traction control on.

Exactly as I just described lol doesn't help my last few cars are fwd. I had a fox body 10 years ago.

Yeah I'm coming from a few different STi's so I am pretty used to AWD... however I had a couple of 300zx Twin Turbos here and there but nothing equal to this amount of power lol. I am slowly getting there and playing a bit more and more

Sounds like this car is going to be a big adjustment for me...never had a RWD car before. Good (scary?) times ahead?

Good once you understand and get used to how it reacts. I suggest getting used to it with traction control fully on before playing with the settings. If you have an empty/vacant paved lot you can use, you could play with the settings to see how the car reacts and you adjust up and down.

You'll be fine.. what is amazing about this platform is the degree to which you can dial the "help" up or down. Left alone it feels as tame and safe as my AWD Golf R.

I wanted this car in part because I missed feeling the rear go when I pushed a bit. You can have that, if you want it -- if you don't change anything, it's pretty unlikely.

There is a learning curve (obviously, see my face above) BUT something I never understood about the reviewers who bemoaned the options and configurability of this car is that no one makes to mess with any of it... but if you want to tinker and tweak it to suit you, at least you have a wide range of options.

Rob, I saw an M240 yesterday in black with the cognac interior. It looked really slick. I thought about you because I know you have both. How would you compare the two? I was really impressed with the look and then realizing that the M2 is a bit wider is just sick.

This I have been wondering even today. Is it legal to slide around empty parking lots and such? Obviously illegal on the street. But I need a place to practice and launch control

That's tough, I mean technically it would generally be private property and I believe that the owner of the parking lot would have to complain but I cant say 100% due to every location having different law / regulations. But I think you could talk your way out of it if the cops stop by, better then doing it on a road but also be mindful of the parking lots owner and not cause damage

I think it may be useful to clarify what TC scale actually does here. It’s effectively DSC off, so it will not stop the rear of the car rotating, if you over trail brake or turn in too aggressively and unbalance the car for example. What it will manage is rear wheel slip on throttle to mitigate power oversteer. It’s the same as the ESC off button on a Porsche, but not the ESC and TC button off. My recommendation would be if you want to really learn it, go to a skid pad.

To me big difference in every aspect. Dont get me wrong, I really like the M240 but the M2 is a different beast. It has real power and handling, and the M Sport Seats are more comfortable and supportive than the M240 seats.

Yes, the M240 can be built to crazy power, probably more than the M2, but you would need to enhance the suspension and driver's seat.

Exterior looks, I like the widebody stance of the M2.

I would make this comparison, with both cars being stock...the M240 is a wife's car, go out to eat or grocery getter (I took the M2 to a restaurant on the Island here and it was parked right in front, got all kinds of looks and attention and I got one person who asked me if I wanted a personal chauffeur) and the M2 is the "man's" car (not trying to be sexist). My wife doesn't overly like riding in the M2 being tuned and settings in sport.

My M2 button has engine in sport + , trans d3 and traction control at 3. I had it at 4 for the longest time but decided I needed a more predictable slip out when needed. Last car was a modded coyote on e85 with far more power but TC was either on, partially off, or off. Other than when it was raining it was basically always off so am used to the rwd characteristics. I have the M1 button to engine in sport mode and all else default just so valves open if it's raining or something now.

A few weeks back based on other convos I tested going back to MDM on the M2 button and just found it too docile and not predictable enough.

It depends where you are. Minnesota has a careless driving statute that applies to parking lots that are normally available to the public.
