Your maintenance cost for the G87 ?
I was wondering how much it would cost normally to replace things like rotors, brakes, etc on this car.
I did some googling online and saw rotors that were $400+ a piece on some online euro site... You can't just buy rotors from AutoZone, etc ? I pray basic things like that aren't that expensive. |

The only maintenance cost I've had is $600 for aftermarket low-dust brake pads, by choice. Rotors do currently show ~$400 ea. How often are you expecting to replace rotors?

Everyone treats their car differently. I wouldn't be caught dead putting $400 - $600 rotors on. When the original stock rotors go, I will be using Girodisc rotors. https://girodisc.com/finder/?pfresul...All&f_axle=All |

Agreed…I just hate seeing money go on non-fun expenses so I just like to get an idea of how upset I am going to be when those expenses come up 😂

Most likely this. My wife's X3MC has 27k on the factory rotors & I have 8k on my M2 since end of Nov. Interestingly, I have yet to replace rotors on any of my performance vehicles & I've owned over 3 dozen over the years. Pads yes, but no rotors.

Agree the comment is moronic. I, also don't like spending more $ on things than I need to. The other moronic comment that gets thrown around is "it's a $70k+ car why do people try to save a couple hundred bucks..." Well, maybe some of us have multiple vehicles, kids, like to travel, among many other things. Hell last year Discount Tire got over $8k from me on tires for my four vehicles. A good chunk of that was unexpected. Generally those that have money don't just throw it around unnecessarily.

My advice: Relax. Don't worry about the brakes until they need worrying about. As an aside, I do recommend a 2 year brake fluid flush/bleed service schedule. Long story short several times I have found past its change date brake fluid to cause problems. One time with the aforementioned JCW, but another time with my Boxster, then my M-B cargo van. When the brake wear warning light comes on or the tech advises you the brakes are due for a refreshing then that's the time to worry about brakes. I can report that car owners buying aftermarket brake hardware is common. Some report no problems others report problems and often the cure is to redo the brake job, replace pads or even both pads and rotors. I hate to do a job or pay to have a job done twice. So what I did (and this was based on what I was told years before) I follow the factory repair manual for brake renewal. My auto tech buddies stressed that brakes are a safety critical system and one should follow the factory brake job procedure. I replace with factory parts the rotors, pads, other hardware, whatever the factory says to replace. Or when I have had a car in for brakes to rely upon the tech to do a proper/safe brake job. So when the time comes I'll just have my M2 in for brakes at the dealer. Yeah, way back in my first years of car ownership I did the brakes on a few cars and later I did the brakes on my 2002 Boxster. But it has been 10 or 12 (possibly more) years since I did any brake jobs and I'm just not in a place where i can work on my cars. Even if I was I just don't want to work on my cars. |

As stated, to each their own. Just curious, what so you think is the most important safety items on a car (hint, tires and brakes). This is true, no matter what car you are talking about. Bottom line you asked, I answered. Have fun with those Auto Zone parts (no, they are not equivalent to Girodisc). Not that it would change your standpoint but your math is off by a bit... |

Yes, you can save money buying HIGH QUALITY aftermarket parts and work with a REPUTABLE shop that knows how to treat these vehicles correctly, but generally, you're buying an expensive luxury sports car and repairs will never be anywhere near as affordable as American or Japanese cars. Yes, the brakes are $3,000. Yes, oil changes are $200. Yes, tires are $2,000. Yes, you're going to spend $2,000 servicing your transmission and differential every few years. Yes, you're going to spend $1,800 on spark plugs and coils. So to respond to abrandonment, I'm tired of hearing questions and complaints about how much BMWs cost to properly operate. If you don't like spending money on maintenance, then don't buy a BMW.

But, as far as safety, I personally would trust the OEM rotors, even for track days. That's just me though, I generally don't do anything special for track events other than brake fluid. OEM front rotors go for $331 each from Bimmerworld: https://www.bimmerworld.com/Brakes/B...108093710.html
