Adaptive headlights/auto high beam for UK cars
Hi all,
I’m based in the UK, and looking to pick up an M240i. I’ve been struggling to find out what sort of headlight tech the car comes with however. I understand the car comes with auto high beam, but what does that actually entail? E.g. if there was an approaching car, would the car…
I’m aware UK and US cars sometimes have differing anti-dazzle functionality, so any clarification would be really appreciated. I’ve tried to find PoV night drives etc. but haven’t found anything which really shows how the headlights would work at night. I used to have access to a 7 Series which had the ability to split both headlight beams. I live around a lot of country roads, so it’s often very useful to have the high beam on, in case there are any suicidal deers about. Thanks! |

Auto high beam can alter the pattern and illuminate different parts of the road, doesn't seem as dramatic as Audi matrix but quite effective.
First few times I used it, I found it a bit freaky, on the motorway, nothing ahead in my lane, cars in the opposite lane but the left roadside signs still had that high beam reflection so i was sure would be dazzling but no flashes. Similar when behind things, unnerving to have full to the side and obviously not on the back of trucks. Have just left it on and never been flashed.

I can deactivate high beam assist
(eta - which is different to anti dazzle so my first response mixes both, was early and a pre coffee reply )

Thank you all! I test drove an M240i over the weekend. Not my desired spec, but nevertheless a very lovely car. Had previously tested out an M340i, but the M240i takes the cake by far. Feels much sportier and more my cup of tea, coming from a stiff Z4.
