Why does this site's reliability/availability suck so bad?
Are they rebooting web servers in AWS in the middle of the day? SQL issues on the back-end? Why does this site flake out so often?

I feel like all these forums are essentially running on the tech that they were set up with in like 2010... I mean looking at the 'emoji' I'm probably being generous with 2010.....

like many things in CURRENT_YEAR, its about squeezing every drop of passive income out of existing infrastructure at the cost of user experience, and pretty much everything else.

Likely due to database maintenance. I've seen periods of instability over the many years I've been a member, they all have eventually gotten cleared up with periods of high stability in between.
It's the best BMW forum out there and most importantly it's free so I can't complain. |

This shit probably running on Dreamhost's free tier, but I can't complain. Happy some of these old school forums are still alive. Nothing beats them for fidelity of information.
Facebook and Discord gobbled up all the communities but they are complete shit at aggregating and indexing information. </rant> |

Who owns this site anyways? Shrouded in mystery. Verticalscope bought up the vast majority of automotive web communities in the last 10-15 years, but apparently this isn't one of them. They paid $7 MILLION for VWVortex about a decade ago, this huge Bimmerpost community must have some value? And if so, why isn't it properly maintained, or simply sold off? Baffling.

It's on an ancient platform, but a lot of the new forums function less well in some ways. It would be good if this site was hosted better, but I think if it's sold to some media company or private equity it will end up ruining the site.

I can deal with a planned outage at midnight, but the constant random outages and slowness throughout the day is crazy sauce.

That just means it has probably been hacked. Maybe it's slow because it's part of some DDoS botnet or something.
