Lamborghini Teases New Hybrid Twin-Turbo V8 for Huracán's Successor, the Temerario

https://hypebeast.com/2024/5/lamborg...e-release-info

Lamborghini has revealed that its highly anticipated codenamed 634 model, the successor to the Huracán, will feature a new hybrid twin-turbo V8 engine. This new addition to Lamborghini’s High-Performance Electrified Vehicle (HPEV) lineup showcases a significant leap in engineering and performance.

The engine is a clean-sheet design from Lamborghini’s headquarters in Sant’Agata Bolognese, Italy. It combines a twin-turbo V8 with a hybrid system incorporating three electric motors and an eight-speed dual-clutch gearbox, recently seen in the Lamborghini Revuelto. This hybrid powertrain is engineered to deliver an impressive output of nearly 900 hp.

Its 4L twin-turbo V8 boasts a specific power of 200 hp/liter, delivering 800 hp between 9,000 and 9,750 rpm and can reach a maximum engine speed of 10,000 rpm — figures typically reserved for racing engines. Additionally, the engine generates a maximum torque of 540 lb-ft between 4,000 and 7,000 rpm, promising an exhilarating driving experience.

================

Looks like it is either a new engine not based on the EA825 or a significant re-work. Apparently no AVL cam actuators and changed HPFP position vs EA825. HPFPs look gear-driven vs lobe-follower which makes sense given the ~10k rpm max engine speed. It will be interesting to see a full technical write-up on this.

Going further on the new product topic, it seems reasonable Lamborghini would introduce a grand tourer. With two V8 engines to choose from, project 634 and the EA825, and based on a heavily reworked MSB platform, a front- or front-mid engined 2+2 would be a natural addition to the product lineup.

First Lambo I'm actually interested in. The Reveluto looks revolting but this mockup doesn't look that bad minus the dumb hexagon DRLs or whatever that crap is in the front fascia;

What do ya'll think?

Think it'll drive like crap like the previous gen Hurucans or will it finally have handling to match it's looks?

I'm hoping it doesn't have the issues of the EA825, the V10 was actually pretty stout and reliable.

i thought the previous huracan drove pretty well. granted there was understeer with the awd setup. never thought it sounded as good as a 458 or GT3 either. but it had a ton of low end grunt and impressive brakes. looks stellar too.

this new one seems pretty impressive. im not a fan of turbos but 10k rpm redline? hell yes.

the problem will still be the weight of all this complexity... probably gonna be over 2 tons 'wet' weight. revuelto is estimated to be 4300... if lambo would let a mag really weigh it instead of quoting dry weight

This is a sad day. Now even a Lamborghini doesnt have a V10. This my friends, is the race to the bottom. You don't buy a Lamborghini because of it's outright performance, you buy it knowing there's stuff faster. You buy it because it brings drama. There's a violent loud V10 behind your ears screaming at you.

This just sounds uncharismatic. I bet they use fake engine noise to try to capture some charisma because the turbos will quiet the actual exhaust down a lot.

Lamborghini Temerario: authentic “Fuoriclasse”

The new super sports car is in a league of its own: a 920 CV twin-turbo V8 hybrid powertrain offering the highest levels of performance and comfort for a peerless driving experience

Automobili Lamborghini presents Temerario , the all-new super sports car equipped with a twin-turbo V8 hybrid powertrain that redefines the very concepts of performance, driving pleasure and comfort. The Temerario is the second model in the Lamborghini High Performance Electrified Vehicle (HPEV) range, after the Revuelto , and completes the hybridization of Sant’Agata Bolognese's line-up following the market debut of the Urus SE.

Discover Temerario

A star of Monterey Car Week 2024, the Temerario presents itself as the new benchmark in the super sports car segment, thanks to class-beating performance. The new hybrid powertrain combines an entirely new twin-turbo V8 engine with three electric motors, providing a total power output of 920 CV. The twin-turbo V8 has been designed and developed from scratch in Sant’Agata Bolognese and is the first and only production super sports car engine able to reach 10,000 rpm. The performance is an absolute revelation: maximum speed of over 340 km/h (210+ mph), 0 to 100 km/h (0-62 mph) in just 2.7 seconds.

“The Temerario is a genuine ‘fuoriclasse’: a car in a league of its own, an extraordinary and innovative vehicle both from a technical and stylistic point of view,” says Stephan Winkelmann, Chairman and CEO of Automobili Lamborghini. “Every new Lamborghini must surpass its forerunners in performance terms, while at the same time being more sustainable from an emissions standpoint. With the Temerario, we have completed a key chapter in the electrification strategy included in our Direzione Cor Tauri plan: we also become the first luxury automotive brand to offer a completely hybridized range.”

Looks great. Lamborghini's cars always seem to be a bit "mundane" if you will at launch, then just get progressively more nuts with each model/version. At the end of the model cycle, they look completely out of this world. It's sort of like they know how the ultimate final version will look, but don't want to give it all away at the start, so they keep it fresh with continuous updates to keep people interested in the model for many years.

Very underwhelming design and not interested in hybrid setup.

The NA V10 also sounds much better than this turbo V8.

It looks like a McLaren GT and sounds terrible compared to the V10. Considering the massive price hike, this is going to flop and be way under MSRP within a year. Huaracan and 458 values just went up.

Keeping my STO, but also placed deposit on this. The V8 TT with 10k redline is intriguing. This one may not be a keeper for me.

How much is the Temerario MSRP supposed to be?

At least it's a flat plane V8.
I guess this is Lamborghini's answer on the SF90's powertrain performance? (Although I think an SF90 is quite a bit more expensive?)

Same here, love my STO.

How do you like the 812 for daily driving comparatively, the STO is kinda my weekend/daily recently but am in love with the looks + V10 so I can't stop driving it. Definitely rough around the edges for daily duty as I don't have cup holders. Also kind of want to experience the V12 + exhaust combo at least once. :P
