Evolution Racewerks cross over pipe - easy DIY

I love my BMWs but every now and then, they make an engineering decision that makes no sense whatsoever. The exhaust cross over pipe on the new S58 motors is a GREAT example of what were they thinking?! They squash the pipe in the middle, interfering with exhaust flow, for no particular reason which increases back pressure to one of the turbos?

Huh?

Well, the good news is its a very quick and easy fix, plus an upgrade from Evolution Racewerks! It literally takes 6 nuts and about 15min to pull off the heavy OEM pipe and replace it with a proper 3-inch cross over pipe increasing exhaust flow, reducing back pressure and even helping heat evacuation. I went with the ceramic coating as well, to help keep heat in the pipe and flowing out the back.

This is such an easy and logical upgrade that for me, it's an absolute no brainer to do.

Check it out!

So did you notice any difference after the install? I’ve had my eye on this pipe as well. And obviously ER’s DPs.

I am seriously looking at their coated catless DPs as well, so good call there. The difference is going to be small, and hard to say without real metrics. I *believe* I notice a slight exhaust note change, and hard to say (again without metrics) on performance, but also believe the change is positive as well. Many of these changes are additive, so keep adding small improvements will eventually make a BIG change.

I did too. Going to go well with my ER mid pipe.

Hello, any sound improvement or change? I’m leaning this with oem mids and the AWE switch path touring exhaust.

The change would be really small in really almost every case with sound. As I have also changed my mids and exhaust box, it's hard to separate this specific item. My main focus really for this upgrade was possible heat reductions with the ceramic coating, and less back pressure to the turbos, so incrementally better response. This isn't a night and day change like some upgrades, but I see as part of an incremental whole with the build picture in mind.

Thanks I asked because I’m worried the switch path may be too quiet. Thanks for your vids.

I have the ER midpipe with the crossover pipe. I haven't noticed any sounds change but did notice (butt dyno) a small throttle response change in Sport+. I agree with BMW DIY Guy on the turbo spool comment in that regard. It almost feels like the car stays in boost longer as there's less back pressure for the turbos.

I just ordered one. I need a quicker turbo response in the lower RPM's and i'm hoping this gets it done.
