Carbon Fiber Mirror Covers

Hi
I want to buy some carbon fiber mirrors covers .
I’m worried that if they are not original BMWs, the color of the carbon roof is very different.

Any alternative (no OEM) with quality and similars or identical to carbon fiber roof original?

I could be wrong but I think the carbon roof has a weave pattern that is 1x1 but most carbon fiber trim (even BMW's) is 2x2. You may be able to find something but it may not be of the quality you like or from a decent reputable company.

but if BMW is 2x2 too... then it is the same to buy quality mirror covers from another brand, is that correct?

Correct, I will probably go with Kies Motorsports. You can also look at Unit 17, R44 Performance, AutoID, and a handful of others.

Price and shipping since they are in the US. I think since the others are overseas you would also possibly have to pay VAT?

How easy is the install. I have seen many vids and they all seem to have to fiddle with it. I worry I will break something.

It's easy, just take your time. I tried to remove the OEM covers without removing the mirror and it was a pain so decided to pop the mirrors off. They popped off surprisingly easy with two trim removal tools on either side. Wires are attached to the mirrors so you don't need to worry about them falling and breaking. I've heard to be careful popping mirrors if it's cold. I did this in 70 degree weather and no issues. I started by unlocking the outermost tabs of OEM covers and then the center. Once these are unlocked the rest of the cover comes off pretty easily.

I'd say the only thing to watch out for when installing the new covers is make sure the locking tabs are lining up before applying pressure to lock them. One of the middle tabs missed the slot slightly and tried to bend (my fault as I wasn't paying attention). Just look at the mount points from the mirror side when pushing the cover on to make sure they are lining up and it won't be an issue.

Most of the fiddling you see is probably getting the cover lined up correctly. I found it was easiest to line up the new covers starting with the innermost tabs and bottom side and rotating pressure upwards towards the locking tabs.

Yeah I have seen both ways to do it…with the mirrors intact (CT Carbon Youtube video) and with mirrors out (everyone else lol). Would like to keep mirrors in, just one less thing to go wrong, but understand it could/would make it harder to see where the tabs are.

I found the mirrors pop off/on much easier than I thought they would. The videos I had seen prior made it seem like you had to apply a ton of pressure which I found to not to be the case.

Just confirming the ease of popping out the mirror to replace the covers. It’s really easy but as others said, just take your time. I went with the BMW M Performamce caps so everything lined up perfectly. I picked them up for a heavy discount from a forum member.

Anyone have any opinions on these? Price is certainly appealing and ships from the US.

Team, not your model of course, but just to make a suggestion...consider PPF the CF cover...while is hard to tell, I had a shop do that to mine on my X5MC...this cover could take a beating from road crap..and screw up the CF cover if not protected

I did. Received them Thursday. They are definitely carbon fiber over fiberglass, so if you are wanting to save weight, these are not a good option.

Quality seems good. I tried following one youtube video and was not successful releasing the clips, so I am going to use the advice from Kies and remove the mirror glass so its easier to work with.

Will send post some photos tomorrow.

Don't buy. They are not going to fit without some modification because the plastic is too thick in some places.

As the wise people say on this forum, "buy once, cry once" and just buy the OEM ones.
