Rattle after start in engine bay?
I've noticed an audible rattle or noise right after the engine starts.
I used remote start for this video, do you guys have this rattle/noise when starting the engine? It sounds like dice shaking in your hand https://www.veed.io/view/4a76663e-4f...78?panel=share Last edited by inevitab1e; 06-09-2024 at 10:13 AM.. |

Unless the noise persists nothing to worry about. |

Or do you mean if this noise happens for months/years at startup? I have a feeling this brief noise isn't going away |

If after engine start if the noise persists that can be a warning sign of a problem. Over the years I have heard various noises from start that persist. One time the noise -- a low rumble sound -- was a bad water pump. Another time a dry bearing sound was a bad accessory drive system idler roller bearing. Then a hard to describe noise but a new noise proved to be a radiator fan motor which had suffered from a snapped shaft. The motor was happily spinning but without the spinning the radiator fan. And one more: An intermittent chirp was yet another failed idler roller bearing. But I have to stress I'm not a professional auto tech. The noise bothers you. Be sure you can reproduce the noise and have the car and have a tech give a listen. If the tech says not a problem there you go. |
