Have M240x and test drove M2
Maybe this has been beat to death but have a ‘23 M240x and just for giggles test drove M2 to prove that there is not much of a difference.
Well mostly wrong on that score. So put aside the ridiculousness of trading in a I year old car what are thoughts of folks who have/had M240 and went to M2? Regrets? No regrets? Thanks and best! |

responding to Ronin:
The difference was immediate. The entire feel was of being more connected with a different steering feel but hey that is part of the design of this RWD car. Also the sound. It was different - more base it seemed. But my M240x has the BMW after market sport exhaust and seems high range but also intoxicating so either or on the sound. But not on the handling. I know M2 owners are going to say “hey dummy what did you expect?” But still was great to feel it. Both cars are very sweet but different mainly in terms of feel. I know the M2 is a track killer. Last comment about acceleration. My 240 feels just as quick and most likely is or even faster. Stomping on it with the AWD and the car just bolts. So good. But that is not the point of comparison. Anyhow I could be full of s**t about the differences so you best better wait for M2 owners to weigh in. |

I own both a MY23 G42 M240 and MY23 G87...no comparison whatsoever. M2 is by far the better car and would wholeheartedly recommend the G87 M2 (assuming that is what you are looking for and can afford). |

Not that it’s a big deal either way as it’s just a name, but I kind of like they are dropping the Competition moniker. I think it’s a bit cleaner to have the top model being called just M2 or M5, and then you can add something onto the end like CS for the limited edition models. |

Actually the opposite wasn't it?
Didn't they say the competition models would now be the base? Tag is saying they will no longer have comps, which makes sense with the M2 range and its current capabilities and options (and the timeline that we've known for so long now with the CS coming next)

Owned a '22 m240i x-drive since November 2021. Ordered the M2 with manual trans, but I was not 100% convinced I was going to trade to the M2 when it arrived because it did not seem all that different. When it got delivered to the dealer, in the first 2 minutes of driving it I could tell it was vastly different.
Even with the m240 in comfort, I swear the M2 suspension in comfort soaks up bumps better. When settings (engine, suspension) are changed to sport, it becomes aggressive, handles more nimbly than my m20 ever could, but still isn't a rough ride. The manual transmission makes the car so much more engaging. My M2 is not as fast in a straight line as my m240, but I don't care. If you can afford the M2, get it. Ironically, my Uncle just picked up his '24 911 Carrera base with pdk. I think the MSRP was 147k after all the options (sadly he bought a dealer spec'd model that was inbound). The all leather interior is nice, but even with that, I wouldn't trade my M2 for a more than double the price 911. The G87 is a great platform if you want something that feels engaging when you want, and comfortable when you're cruising.

In my experience the difference is huge... I test-drove an M240 2 years ago as a potential replacement for my Audi TTS, the car felt like an X7 to me... I was so disappointed... When I got back into the TT it felt like a raw go-kart, I couldn't believe the difference. The M240 felt soft, comfortable, pulled like a train, was glued in the corners, but it felt just too boring, too easy, without any real feeling.
Fast forward a year when my M2 arrived (manual with buckets), the car was a different world, sitting in the TT after the M2 felt like sitting in an A3. The M2 has this rawness, the vibrations that make a petrolhead happy This is all very subjective of course, I never had the 2 side by side. |

Isn't this the case if we are comparing zero to 60 times as the AWD launches soooo much better than both M2 variants (auto, MT)? I feel like many "slower" cars with AWD would beat my 6mt off the line but once my car is going I don't think that many cars on the road could keep up. Just trying to understand the definition of straight line speed on the comments here, if that means just from a dig or all instances of acceleration.

If you're buying an automatic M2, then it's definitely not worth it unless you just want to flex a badge. The M240i xDrive 8ZF is faster than the M2 for the most part, and has all the convenience and laziness features. You can even do a JB4 and smoke every M2 in the country probably.
If you want a 6MT, then yes the M2 is better.

This is one of the dumbest arguments. Maybe somebody just cannot stand the way the M240i's look? Maybe somebody is going to track the car. Auto/MT are only one of many considerations.

I did it. Traded a 22 M240 with 15.3k miles for a 23 M2.
Idk what you guys are smoking suggesting the M240 is faster in a straight line. I get that my cars were modified, but unless you're racing to 30mph, the M240 is not faster. I toy with the idea of going back. My M2 is turned up now, I've thrown almost $70k at the car, and I don't know what else there is to do. I can keep modding it, but it's the fastest car on the road 99% of the time. I have yet to lose a race on the street. The M2 just feels like such an event to take it out now. I miss jumping in my M240, weather not mattering, and just going for a drive. I can't do that with the M2, especially now. Here comes the controversial take. If someone came and offered me $100k for my M2 as it sits, I'd take the money and go buy a '25 M240i cash and ditch my daily. I think a 500-600whp M240i xDrive is the ideal car for daily driving and racing casually. Best case scenario would be to have both, but I can't swing that at this point. I'm done rambling. |
