Manual Transmission internal noises
Hey guys, This is my first BMW let alone an M so I am not familiar with the different noises this car makes which I have not experienced with my other lesser vehicles. The one thing that I have noticed most is that the manual transmission is quite loud. It's not gear whine noise but clickity clackity type noises. I only notice it when I go up my steep driveway and don't apply enough throttle and when shutting down. When I shutdown, I can hear the internals of the transmission come to a stop. Like loose lash internally. If I press the clutch pedal to stop the input shaft from spinning and shut down, the noise is less but still there. Drivability wise, the car runs great but would just like some confirmation from other manual drivers that this is a normal characteristic of the transmission.

Dual mass flywheel. That's what you're hearing.
