BMW Newbie Buying 2025 M2 Questions

I'm new to BMW, but have decided to buy the 2025 M2. I've a specific build in mind and will be going to the dealer to put down a deposit soon. A few newbie questions:

1. On the US configurator, I'm (pleasantly) surprised to find so few options/packages for the car. Is this a normal BMW thing or is it specific to the M2?

2. The dealer tried to tag on a bunch of ppf/window tinting stuff. Are these factory specific items or the dealer would simply sub-contract out the work?

3. The dealer wanted to charge $699 for a doc fee, which seems awfully high to me. What would be the average BMW doc fee in a state that does not impose a legal limit?

Thanks.

1. Yeah I think it is pretty unique to the M2. I've seen other models have a lot more options/packages available.

2. IMO do not get any of these things from the dealer. They will try and tell you that it is "mandatory". Do your own research on PPF and tint (if you want those things) and find an installer. The dealer will absolutely overcharge you for these things, and likely won't let you customize it the way you want either.

3. I think it does vary a lot by state, but here in CA it is capped at $85... so $699 sounds insane to me. Hopefully someone else can chime in on what's reasonable. What state are you located in?

Many thanks for your reply. I'm in NV, which does not impose a legal limit on the doc fee. I think I'm going to find a reputable installer myself to do the ppf/tint work.

When I lived in NV/AZ the doc fees were usually between $400-600 so that sounds about right, no matter how scummy and criminal it is lol.

Have no experience configuring my car. I bought my car off the showroom floor. Oh, mid April 2023.

During the negotiation phase the salesman initially listed 3 or 4 dealer options claiming at one point these were required.

I discussed each one and pretty much said, did say in fact, if the dealer insisted on tint, good guards, special exterior (or interior) treatment, nitrogen filled tires, then no sale.

The salesman (sales manager) relented on every one. I got the car for sticker plus a $399 administrative fee.

That was back in April 2023, when the car was just showing up. I searched quite a bit to find an unspoken for car on a dealer's showroom. And with 200 miles of me.

Nowadays I think one could negotiate a better deal.

One tactic to use is learn of all the added fees/charges: documentation, administrative, advertising, whatever then add those to the car's cost and adjust your offer price to what you believe you want to pay.

1. Yes, few pkgs which is nice. Skip the wireless phone charger & 5g.

2. Don't pay for any dealer "add-ons".

3. I've never paid more than $150 doc fee in any state in which I lived.

Sounds like you need to find a new dealer. Expand your search outside your immediate area. My last 3 vehicles were purchased from dealers either out of state or from a few hundred miles away.

Doc fee in the Atlanta area is $799 at pretty much every dealer including non-BMW dealers.

Just for reference.

Really? This is new info…to me.

Any links to discussions on it? G80 forum?

I can still at it. Also, short of pulling things apart and unplugging cables, is there a way in software to disable it if I don’t like it?

I haven’t researched it much, been busy with work and home stuff. My CA mentioned it cause I expressed all bmw wireless chargers simply overheat iPhones, even the one in my ‘20 Supra. He said he looked into and read a notice about upgrades witelsss chargers. When I went by to confirm my order I left my phone in a ‘25 G82 Comp that was running outside while they did some work on it.

Phone was in the charger about 30 minutes and charged 15% or so. Nothing amazing but at least it didn’t overheat. I’m sure running maps, media, would hurt the charging rate.

We agreed that if the charger gave me issues he’d compensate me with some M apparel or something. I’m not pressed either way so I added it.

Do your research on the PPF and window tint. My dealer turned out to be a pretty good deal. I did all XPEL (Ultimate and Pro). PPF up to the A pillar and then 70 on the front windows and 50 on the rear and back windshield.

Wireless charging is only $200, so I don't mind paying for it for a bit of convenience.

Another question for all the M2 owners, did you pay: (1) lower than MSRP, (2) MSRP, or (3) MSRP+some premium?

Since I'm ordering a customized build of the M2 and not driving one off the lot, I wonder how likely a dealer would go for a price lower than MSRP.

I've no experience with BMW dealers, but it is almost impossible to negotiate the price on the Cayman GTS 4.0, and one would be lucky to get a Nissan Z without paying a hefty dealer premium.

You're not going to get under MSRP for a custom build of a '25 M2. You may be able to get a '24 already sitting on the lot for slightly under MSRP, but don't expect a huge discount there either. At the same time you definitely shouldn't be paying over MSRP (whether it's dealer mark up or add-ons).

I will be paying MSRP for mine, I don’t expect you will be able to get much of a discount on a 25 right now, but it doesn’t hurt to ask for one. You definitely shouldn’t pay over MSRP though, this isn’t a limited production car, any dealer trying to get over MSRP is trying to take advantage of you.

I am paying MSRP. Tried for a discount because this dealer gave me a $2K discount on a custom 2023 M3 built to spec, but he wasn’t allowing any discounts this time around :-/. Oh well.

Went without wireless charging since it’s in the armrest for manual cars and I’m sure I’d forget my phone in there all the time.

Can confirm, especially when it causes it to overheat and CarPlay to die.

My CA tried to tack on a 5k mark up, I told him I’d walk in a heartbeat, agreed at msrp.
