My TR87 Edition G87 M2

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com

Some of you might know I've been a bit obsessed with the G87 M2 platform since it dropped. Today, I'm thrilled to share our latest creation, the TR87 Edition G87 M2.

The ethos behind this project was to make the G87 M2 a more engaging, visceral and sharper tool than stock form. For me the benchmark BMW is my much beloved OG F87 M2, despite the G87 being a superior all rounder and better developed chassis, what I missed most was the feedback, playfulness and sense of occasion from it’s predecessor and the TR87 package addresses that.

This is a culmination of over 18 months of research and development to form a package that we are stoked to be able to share as a drive in, drive out set up from AUTOID. The TR87 edition is a cohesive package that enhances the performance and aesthetics of the G87 M2 from the premium products off our shelves.

We’re also pleased to announce that we can offer this package with a brand new 2024 BMW G87 M2 included for those without a foot in the game.

So what makes up this TR87 package?
  • TR87 V3 Carbon Fibre Aero kit (parts listed below)
  • M Performance HAS suspension upgrade
  • Milltek Sport OPF Back exhaust upgrade
  • Optional handling package (listed below)

TR87 carbon aero kit

Being the TRE brand all products are crafted exclusively with Pre-Preg Carbon Fibre to ensure an OEM fit. The TR87 kit retains functionality and modularity of the previous versions, with a homage to the F87 M2 in its latest V3 variant:
  • 3-Piece Front Splitter: Offers easy replacement in case of damage and the option to swap out sides with winglets or flat designs.
  • Side Skirts: Available in configurations with or without winglets for customisation. The winglet version offers a wider stance look, especially when paired with the rear bumper winglets. The flat version is more suited for those looking for a subtle look complimenting the flat front splitter.
  • Adjustable Rear Wing: Provides road or track angle adjustment for optimal performance. This rear wing follows design elements from the carbon roof with end plates that flare out complimenting the rear arches.
  • Optional Rear Spoiler: For those wanting a more street look. The rear spoiler is one of our best selling products due to its design, fitment and finish.
  • Optional Rear Bumper Winglets: Ties the winglet design elements from the front splitter, side skirts and rear wing for a cohesive look.

Paying homage with F87 design elements with the following:
  • New Carbon Fibre Kidney Grilles: Sleek carbon fibre surrounds and assertive gloss black centre slats. a split 2 slat design following the design language from the inner headlight surround. These can also be optioned for fully gloss black.
  • New Front Bumper Centre Trim: Available in carbon fibre or gloss black, featuring cut-out slats for improved airflow to the oil cooler, as well as visual cohesion with the new side ducts.
  • New Front Bumper Ducts: These ducts boast the sharp angled design elements from the F87 M2 front bumper. Following the lines from the front bumper centre trim.
  • New Rear Diffuser: This assertive diffuser maintains the same design elements from the front bumper ducts around the exhaust.

Coming back to the functionality of this kit, we tested the aerodynamics using CFD (computational fluid dynamics) and the results show its effectiveness, results are impressive:
  • 108kg of Downforce at 120mph: The V3 TR87 kit generates a substantial amount of downforce, with a perfect 50:50 balance between the front splitter and rear wing.
  • Adjustable Rear Wing: Optimise performance with the ability to adjust the rear wing angle for a lower drag coefficient on straights.

TR87 Suspension & Exhaust

As part of the TR87 package each car will also be equipped with an M Performance Height Adjustable Suspension kit and Milltek Sport OPF Back exhaust System.

The M Performance HAS offers a 45mm drop whilst retaining the factory electronic damping control, and the Milltek Sport is an OPF back system meaning that it won’t affect emissions regulations, offer a deeper tone with open valve variability, as well as finishing off that rear end.

Optional Handling Pack

This is where the true difference is made in order to make this car excel over its predecessor in every way.
  • MSS Hybrid Adjustable Springs: Triple rated spring technology alongside the factory Electronic Damper Control (EDC).
  • Moton Uniball Control Arm Bushes: These replace the existing lower front thrust arm bushes that are rubber with a solid aluminium pillow ball system.
  • Hardrace Rear Toe Arms to fine tune the alignment these are required for greater adjustability.
  • Millway Adjustable Camber Plates to further fine tune the alignment these camber plates offer up to 20mm of camber adjustment.
  • Fast Road Geo Set Up four-wheel alignment tailored towards a fast road preference.
  • Yokohama AD09 Tyre Package, with slightly wider tyres on each axle and much more performance. 285/35 R19 / 295/30 R20
  • CSL Coding Package this includes the following improvements:
    Transmission: Lightning-fast, seamless gear changes.
Balances the aggression of older DCT systems with refined smoothness.
    Steering: Sharper, more responsive feel.
Increased feedback for ultimate control and precision.
Traction and Handling: Enhanced traction and handling.
More controlled slip in MDM mode.
Differential: Improved launch capabilities and traction.
Seamless integration with traction control for optimised power delivery.
Suspension: Improved turn-in and corner exit stability.
Firmer feel in Sport Plus mode for a refined, confidence-inspiring experience.

Handling pack upgrade track test:

The car is completely transformed now. The Moton Bushes have made a noticeable difference in steering feel, with a notable amount of vibration and feedback coming through the wheel that wasn’t there before. With the front camber and rear toe dialled in, traction out of corners is sensational. The car feels like it’s on rails, it questions the need for a 4WD option for this car and supports BMWs decision not to do it. The overall feel of the car now is one of a complete package.

Combined with a track focused alignment with additional camber and toe-out. This is then taken one step further with M4 CSL coding to the steering - this removes any dead spots within the steering and again, enhances the overall experience. Each of these small mods, combine to make a dramatic difference in the experience of the car. I cannot overstate, this car feels incredible to drive - my favourite shop car by far.

Read more about our track day prep here.

The combination of these upgrades has transformed our G87 M2 into a more engaging and capable machine. For us the F87 M2 was the baseline for what a good M car should be, the TR87 edition with handling package has excelled that. The car feels more composed, more responsive, and simply more fun to drive. It's a testament to our development over the last 18 months with carefully curated aftermarket parts proudly represented as a package, the TR87.

Clean build with a cohesive design all around. Particularly found of your minimal spoiler as it’s not as loud as many other. https://autoid.co/products/bmw-m2-g8...er-by-tre-2021

Looking forward to installing it once my MY25 arrives.

Appreciate the love! We've tried to keep our designs as clean as possible.

Thank you! It's a Nissan GTR colour - infamous on a limited edition R34. A lot of people commented about this car being a modern day GTR with its boxy design and tune-ability, so we leaned into that. Plus, it looks amazing!

Such a fantastic color

Not sure why it’s infamous…

I love everything about it but would probably opt for a different spoiler, that is more subtle yet still has that presence. The adjustable spoiler (though functional) is a little too boy-racer fast & furious for me tbh… but to each their own

Everything comes together so well… Thanks for sharing!!

I think the spoiler is awesome. It’s not too tall and ghetto style, but it brings some needed sportiness over the typical carbon CS style lips. Bold, yes.

I’m very close to ordering one.

I agree, but what is the craze with all the winglets on these new CF pieces... ? That rear diffuser would be my cup of tea if you had a version "without" the extra winglets. Less is more & all the extra bits tend to get a bit noisy "visually speaking" after a while. Just my .02 cents. Nicely done though.

The winglets are separate. You can get the center diffuser by itself.
