Selling a car to Carvana...
Seriously considering going back to just one car. Have owned 2 vehicles -- various combinations -- since 2002.
But I'm retired now and my cars sit far too much unused. A "huge" car insurance premium was kind of a wake up call I could get by with one car. (Sure I can afford the premium but I can turn spending approx $200/month -- not factoring in car depreciation -- into a combined saving/earning of $360/month by getting rid of one car.) 'course, it depends upon how much the car will bring. I'm not giving the car away... Oh, the car: 2024 BMW 230ix with <6500 miles (and just 8 months old) in like new condition. A great car but I think I'd rather keep my 2023 M2. Believe it or not the M2 is a bit less expensive to insure than the 230ix. I have submitted a request for an appraisal of the 230's value from Carvana. Has anyone had any experience with selling a car to Carvana? I want the Carvana offer in hand then I will visit the local BMW dealer to see what it would offer me for my car which is where I happened to buy the car last Dec.. |

Carvana often outbids dealerships and their checks are always good, in my experience. I often directed customers to check with them if they did not like our trade-in offer.
But on a 2024 2-series, be prepared to take a beating. Let us know what that cost over the past eight-months turns out to be. Good luck. |

Carvana will give you a price based off a lot of factors. Their inventory in the area, their turn rate for them, etc. It can vary by thousands based on where and when you do it.
That said, the process is super easy. They come by with a truck, pick it up, you get a check in the mail, |

If you've been with the same insurance company for a few years, I'd suggest getting quotes elsewhere. Unfortunately, insurance companies favor new customers over loyalty anymore.

Same here. Carvana gave me about $7k more than 2 different dealers so the difference more than offset the tax savings of trading in. It was a very easy process, they made me an offer over the internet, came by and picked up the car and gave me a check.
Carmax gave me a good price too, but not as good as Carvana. |

Doesn't give me the warm fuzzies that when I submitted the car for a price the site issued me a "we're stumped" notice and directed me to contact Carvana. I did and was told the system was overloaded. Got the process rolling and was told it could take 3 to 5 business days for a response. Hope not everybody is selling their car... But will just have to see. |

There is a Carvana office just a mile away. I stopped in the other day and was told that once I had an offer I could bring the car in and get a check issued and leave the car and go home with the check. A family member can give me a ride home. |

I sanity check my car insurance from time to time and so far while my insurance premiums are high/going higher -- no tickets, no accidents just lousy time for insuring a car -- no other insurance company has managed to beat my insurance company's premium. One or two have come close, within a few dollars, but not worth the trouble to change companies.

Try carmax website at least you can get a price on line to compare. When I sold my Audi they gave me more then carvana and the dealer including the tax benefit of a trade.

On my M2, Carvana and CarMax were roughly equal and both were much higher than what a dealer would offer for trade.
However, I ended up selling on Cars and Bids for much more than Carvana and CarMax were offering. |

Sold my wife's Volvo SUV to Carvana and the whole process was perfect and stress free!

I have had two positive experiences with CarMax.
One time they were $2500 more than what my dealer offered to me and the other time $1000 more. ![]() |

I've sold cars to Carmax in the past, but recently I sold my 2016 Audi A6 and both Carmax and Carvana were nearly $5K lower than who I eventually sold it to (Autonation Toyota) after getting several other quotes including Audi dealers.
Bottom line is to shop around especially as used car prices are much more volatile now, and buyers like Carmax and Carvana price offers pursuant to what's most in demand to sell on their end.

Carmax just needs your plate #. They don’t bother to even look at a car, went to trade in Wife’s CX5 and they spit out a number based on computer value. No haggling, doesn’t matter if you shined it up or brought it unwashed for months. Same thing with dealer trade, we actually were able to improve trade-in value through dealer with haggling but these days it’s wholesale value and everyone is about the same.

I have sold cars outright to dealers (Autonation), Carmax, and Carvana. These days you can get an online offer pending inspection from all of those places and you would be a fool not to. Sold to the highest bidder in each instance and in-and-out the door in less than half an hour.

I only have one good experience with Carvana. About three years ago I wanted out of my '09 S5 MT with about 33k miles on it. I thought I would love it, but I did not. Carvana offered me around $1500 less than I paid for it. Then sent over one of their associates with the Carvana flat bed. He did a decent inspection of it (whatever you could see without a lift). Handed me a check and took off with it. Yes, I would do it again.

Sold my F30 to Carvana a couple of years ago. Process was fast and easy. The rep was at my house for all of five minutes, maybe 10. Signed some documents while she took pictures of the car, got handed a check for exactly what I was quoted when I did the online process, and she drove away with the car. Great way to sell a car.

Two quick and easy sales to Carvana last winter. One was a drop off at a Carvana location with minor dispute about a scratch (easily resolved), another was a pick up by Carvana with zero attention to the physical condition of the car - just had me sign docs and handed me a check. Would highly recommend the whole experience if an offer is good.

Thanks for all the comments. Think I'll give CarMax a try.
Oh, regarding insurance I found my insurance carrier, State Farm, has or was having a rough time. Word was it was paying out $1.30 for claims for ever $1.00 it took in by premiums. That's crazy. But it was said this was the reason why State Farm car insurance premiums skyrocketed. I'm going to a nearby AAA insurance office tomorrow and get a quote. |
