ZTK Option
Is the ZTK option only available for the newer models or was it available for the 2022 and 2023? Who has it and how do you like it? Is it a needed addon or nice to have for those that like to push the limit a lot?
I am simply just curious. |

I initially wanted the package just for the wheels but figured it wasnt worth the cost, but then I learned that the larger calipers and rotors were also included, so I had the package added immediately. The oil cooler under the front bumper is a risk, but you can get the Turner skidplate to protect it. |

It's been available in the US since the G42's launch in 2022.
Well worth it if you plan to track even a little bit. Hoping they add some factory protection for the cooler under the front bumper though (rather than forcing everyone to get the Turner plate for $450) |

Even if you don’t track I still think its worth it at $2K. Unique wheels, large brakes, and fender garnishes, which i hated at first but have grown on me, and others as well. I could live without the oil cooler, but mine is protected by a TMS skid plate.

As above worth it for the wheels alone. EU models don’t have the cooler in the same place so it’s not a risk for us.

I special ordered my car with it just because I like the look of the bigger brakes. A few youtube reviews stated the stock brakes as being a weak point so I guess the bigger ZTK front brakes would be a welcome upgrade.

From what I read there is no stopping power advantage, it’s only for better cooling; cooling is also how BMW markets this package. Not sure how accurate that is given the rotors are larger and more pad is making contact, you’d think it’s helping the car stop.

But wouldnt more surface area of pad touching rotor improve grip/stopping power? Imagine 1 square inch of pad vs 12 square inches of pad making contact with a rotor. I’m no physics expert.

Bigger pads etc give bigger surface area and allow better cooling for more consistent repeated braking (less fade) |

As long as your brakes are strong enough to make your wheels lock up and require ABS intervention, bigger brakes aren't going to make you brake quicker, that requires grippier tyres instead.
Now, bigger brakes do have a higher surface area so cooling is better, and bigger brakes also have a higher thermal mass, allowing them to accept more thermal energy as it can be spread out over a larger amount of mass. Plus, they look better. Realistically, that's all that most of us care about really... |
