Dash Cam Question For My 2025 M2

I finally pulled the trigger and put down a deposit. Expecting to take delivery in about 3 months.

It is surprising that BMW does not offer a factory dash cam option for the M2. For an after-market installation, I don't want to do hard-wiring, nor do I want to run an unseemly long cord. So the only option I have is to miirror tap.

Question: does anyone know for sure that the mirror can provide sufficient power to operate a dash cam? Has anyone done it sucessfully?

I've seen a video where someone successfully did a mirror-tap in a M4 to operate a radar detector, but not a dash cam.

Thanks for the info. I checked the website. It seems the functionality of their cameras is not quite as good as some other brands.

In any case, the fact that they are able to run their dash cams off the power to the mirror sort of answered my question.

why you do not use the OEM BMW Dashcam?

youŽll need to code it.. otherwise you get errormessages due to battery drain

I was looking at this one too, but its specs compared to something like the Viofo A229 are not compelling.

They actually do offer a factory dash cam as a Port-Installed Option. A few members on this forum reported adding it to their build for about $700. It displays as a port-installed option on the window sticker. It's called the Advanced Car Eye 3.0 Pro.

I mounted a garmin mini 2 with a usb card and a dongle adapter to my rear view mirror on my ford truck and it works great and was plug and play.

It’s not hardwired so no parking sensor action and no rear camera but easy and less then $200 for this type of setup where main camera is working easily when the car is on. Small footprint of the camera allowed it to hide behind my mirror so I barely see it.

Is this option not possible on the m2?

I have a Garmin Dash Cam Mini 2 in my F87 M2C. The best part about it is that it's discreet, hiding behind the rear-view mirror. I ran the USB power cable under the headliner above the windshield, under the A-pillar trim, under the glove box, underneath the middle console, and finally to the USB port for the rear seat. It stays powered on about 10 minutes after turning off the ignition, so no battery drain.

It's a very basic dash cam, however. Does not have a screen, so you need to use the app to view videos. It's 1080p resolution. It automatically saves "events" where it detects hard braking, and I assume accidents (though I haven't tested that ).

If you can live without the higher resolution and additional features of more expensive cameras, the Mini 2 is a good camera for the price. I have been using it for 3 years and it's worked well. I'm thinking about transferring it to my 2025 G87 when it's delivered. It's a lot cheaper than the port-installed BMW Car Eye 3.0 Pro, and I already have it.
